computer just freezes

what could be causing this, about 2-3 min after reaching desktop it just freezes so i tried to format but it even freezes when attempting to format aswell.

Cpu: i7 2600k
OS: windows 7 home prem
Ram: Corsair vengence 8gb
HDD: western digital blue
MB: ASUS P8P67 PRO

Have you checked your RAM for errors using Memtest?

i dont even get chance to load anything usually because as soon as i do it speeds up the freezing, the format screen always freezes on the bit where you select language aswell

just tried each memory stick on its own and its still doing it

i dont think its the cpu as that would usually power the computer down or restart it and im not sure if it could be the hdd or not

also ive just turned my computer on and left it idle and its been fine but its when i start opening programs it freezes so something must be buggered because its doing it when under small stress, and like i said it does it when formatting too, maybe its the hdd but its only 4 month old.

bump, tried clearing cmos aswell and still no luck
