We had a wonderful holiday in Hayle (8 miles from St Ives) this year, My wife's sister also lives there with her kids and husband.

My wife is a senior principal physiotherapist and is applying for an 8b therapies in patient management position in truro.

Im a Senior Staff Nurse specialising in Critical Care. Jobs going all over the uk so not an issue.

Do you guys think that moving post one amazing holiday is daft or if it feels right "JFDI"?

I feel we we would have some back up as My wife's sister is already living there.

any thoughts?

Cornwall has seemed nice whenever I've been down that way but the main problem has always appeared to be a relative lack of jobs but not always correspondingly low house prices (although this depends on where you are I suppose) - however if you've got the jobs situation sorted and have enough money for housing then there's no obvious reasons why you shouldn't go for it.

Gets the best of the UK weather.

No it doesn't - SW England is wetter than most places as the South-West is the direction from which Atlantic depressions come in from. London and the SE get the best UK weather - by the time a depression gets to the SE it has dumped most of its load to the west. I'd still rather live in Cornwall than here though.

Depends on the person, it's nice for a holiday but I can't think of many areas in the UK i'd rather live in permanently less.

The remoteness of everything does my head in, the laid back to the point of being lazy attitude of everyone there I can't stand, the massive influx of tourists every summer etc. etc.

Somewhere to retire to maybe, when things like the above wouldn't bother me so much.

Penzance is my home town and do miss it occasionally. Sure for the couple of weeks of sunshine we get then its the best place in the country but after that its as wet and miserable as anywhere else. But id still go back, if im going to rained on anywhere it will be cornwall as you have the anticpation of the awsome summers :)

So if you have a job lined up that will cover the insane house prices then go for it. I wouldnt live anywhere east of Truro mind but thats just me.

I am orginally from Plymouth but now live in the midlands. Me and my wife had this decision to make a few years back but house prices down there really meant we couldnt afford to move there. I think the main point to remember is no matter how ace your holiday was its completely different when you have to live and work there. My dad lives in callington and its a few miles away from anything expect a local tesco and a few pubs which is nice if you like that kind of life but crappy if you want something more social. I have kids now and of course would love to be closer to the sea and sand for days off, I have fond memories of Loo and torquay on sunny afternoon trips with my grandparents.

Generally, yes - daft. You can have a wonderful holiday pretty much anywhere in the world but that doesn't mean you would really love to live there. Living and working somewhere is very different to holidaying - you have different needs and wants.

But then we're not talking about moving half way round the world here - I'm sure you can make a well informed comparison of the pros and cons of Cornwall vs. Hampshire if you do some homework. Just revisit the decision with a rational mindset when you're not still in a wow-holiday-was-awesome mood and try not to be fooled by boredom with your current location or general grass is greener on the other side thoughts.

Pretty much this to be honest. Main source of jobs is the tourism industry, fishing and farming. Lot's of minimum wage jobs yet the cost of living there is high. House prices are among the highest in the country due to the number of second homeowners buying them up and pricing the locals out of the market.

I am also from Penzance, well originally but we moved to Newlyn when i was a teenager. That was the Christmas we lost the lifeboat Soloman Browne. Not a good time. :(

I would love to move back home but simply could never afford to. :(
