iPad usb/sd connectors stopped working

Does anyone know why USB and SD card connectors would stop working on an iPad with the latest firmware? My mum has a first gen iPad and the connectors were fine prior to the last update. Nothing happens when they're plugged in, not even an error message.

is it the official apple one? they may have removed the drivers support for third party devices within the firmware update.

I thought that too but my mum claims they are official. They came from the Apple store and have the Apple logo on them. They look exactly like the ones on the Apple site so I can only assume that she's right.

I remember that a while ago (months ago, possibly even a year) they reduced how much power the card connectors could use. So that some devices wouldn't work, but normal SD cards and such should be fine still. Might just need a restore :s?
