if you've been married for a short amount of time the court might put the split in your favour but they tend to go 50/50 unless children are involved.

How about a Jew wedding or a Buddhist wedding? Do all the religions have the same legal BS attached for any given country?

Being married is a legal position rather than a religious one....and if you are married you don't own the house 100%, you both on it..that's the point of being married. When you divorce assets will be split equitably, it depends on circumstances such as children and custody, but needless to say if you have a financial dependant then you are ******.

You don't even have to be married as others have pointed out, cohabiting can also result in asset division when the relationship breaks down, particularly when children are involved.

My dad took advice with his will in that if he died or left her and she had nothing he'd have to 'keep' her indefinitely

Luckily when he did leave her she had as much as him so they went their separate ways
