New ram, continuous restarts

Just installed some of my new ram (2x4gb), which is a different brand to the original (2x4gb) but has the exact same timings, voltage etc. Both sets work individually but they won't all work together, in any combination. Is there any way around this, or is it as I expect and they're just not compatible?

It is never a good idea to mix, everything might seem the same but there is probably something slightly different that is not documented, you are better off sticking with one brand or when you get new ram start over fresh with a new brand/type.

I just updated the bios and it worked fine
