The budget is £700 and I currently have:

XFX 850w core edition pro psu
Coolermaster 690 ii lite case
DVD drive
Windows 7

The only other parts I need are a motherboard, a cpu and cooler, graphics card, ram and a ssd plus an additional storage drive.

I'd like to keep the budget down where possible but I'm currently thinking of

Cpu: 3570k
Motherboard: Not sure, I don't intend to use crossfire/sli
GPU: 7870
RAM: Not sure
SSD: Not sure, 250gb preferably
HD: 500gb

Any suggestions?

Edit: I'll be playing at 1080p

Why get a 850W PSU if you won't Xfire or SLi? :/

Now isn't a great time to be buying. The new intel socket (1150) is due at the start of june and there are rumours Nvidia may release 700 series GPUs this month.

I got it for £67 and I was considering crossfire at the time but now I've gone off the idea. Will the new socket be around the same price like the jump from sandy bridge to ivy bridge? Do you think it would be best to wait a month and see?

The computer is for my brother and I tried to say wait one month but he's saved up for a while and just wants to get it now. Realistically isn't the 3570k more than enough for the foreseeable future? The only problem will be a lack of an upgrade path but I don't see him upgrading for another 4 years.

RAM: Corsair 2x4gb 1600 (£50)
GPU: Sapphire HD 7870 XT 2GB (£185)
CPU: 3570k (£171)
Motherboard: Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77X-D3H (£102)
SSD: Samsung 840 Series 250GB (£130)
Cooler: Coolermaster HYper 212 Evo (£25)

Total: £665

Should I change anything?
