depends on your pc spec. if you recording at a high quality and n new games at decent settings you need a powerful pc regardless of what program you use.

I find MSI Afterburner doesn't really affect game play all that much when recording unlike Fraps, which will literally eat half your frame rate straight away and cause it to be laggy, which of course isn't good if your playing something like an online FPS.

I ran benchmarks a while ago and Dxtory out performs both Fraps and Afterburner. It takes less resources to run using the Dxtory codec, meaning less performance drop, and has much better options.

Although Afterburner is free, Dxtory is not.

in your garden.
Do not record to the same hard drive your playing the games on you will get lag that way.

MSI afterburn is good but has to be set just rite for it to run smooth and work rite.

Fraps is good but uses too much for recording unlike most other software.

like above as well this all depends on your pc specs as well if recording 720p-1080p you need a good pc and a big hard drive to store the uncompressed video file.

Direct the recording video to a 2rd hard drive while playing the game on the 1st. I have not used Dxtory myself but have used Fraps and afterburn Fraps uses uncompressed code so a massive file but afterburn uses a code you set it to which is good.

Whats the best free video recording software to record game play and in-game sound ? dont really want to spend £25 on fraps !

Thanks

if you have a nvidia card just wait for shadow play before splashing some cash. Should be released next month

you can use playclaw, which had a beta 5 release recently but is still being updated to a full release due in August.

Not in answer to your question I am afraid, but another thing to check is OBS - that does local recording these days and probably has a lot of features the others don't

PS - It is free :)
