How to remove Start button in 8.1

For those of us who didn't have an issue finding the bottom left corner of our screen and don't need a silly target cluttering up the task bar, there's a simple solution:

That's a good idea, not keen on the start button being back either, is that the only way then , to get rid of it?

why is it called a start button anyway, when all it does is throw you into the metro interface..

Don't forget you can right-click it to access a 'fairly' normal Start sub-menu.

The button brings up the start screen/menu. So it's still a start button. I think people have a hard time understanding that the start screen is just the classic start menu presented differently.

The irony is not lost on me that, for those who have no issue with the missing start menu in Windows 8, people are now using a 3rd party application to get rid of it, in the same way those who couldn't live without the button installed 3rd party software to bring it back

I don't miss the Start menu but I like the new Start button, and the new context menu for it. I wouldn't go to the trouble of removing it but each to their own.

It only takes the space of one icon up on the bar? Surely it isn't taking that much real estate up.

I don't mind it either way.

The button does nothing that moving your mouse to the very bottom left didn't already do. Even the context menu was accessible by right clicking in the corner. If anything, it's saved people moving their mouse about 3mm.
