Surely the Noctua noise is down to the fan more than anything, heatsinks obviously generate little to no noise themselves.

If quiet cooling is desired for the CPU, simpy buy a silent fan and a cooler that will support a replacement fan, as it'll likely work out a bit cheaper whilst looking nicer(until noctua sort out their colour scheme, yuck).

So i think this is the build I have settled on. My old PSU is an Enermax 80 625W. Not sure if it's usable in this build or if it's quiet.

I have 2 x 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD I can reuse as well as a DVDRW.

It's a little over budget but I can stretch it and I'm hoping this will last me for the next three years for the type of work i'll be doing.

Still unsure if i'll really need the i7 but i'll probably go with it

Superb! Perhaps I could use the graphics card too? Had a look at it but can only tell it's an Asus. Might be more details on it if I remove it, had a go but felt like it was going to snap something. Do they usually pull up or out to the side? Sorry to be vague

Well they pull straight up, once any screws and/or locks have been dealt with. I tend to start by easing it up from the back (outside the case) and pulling up from the front of the card, then get a better grip and it should come out very easily.

However if all you need at this stage is information on the card, you can just use GPU-Z as stulid mentioned, it is very detailed.

I'd recommend spending the extra £20 or so on the 4770K, it will perform much faster once overclocked.

If i'm going to overclock (I don't think I am) Would I not be better buying an i5 that I can overclock? save some money. Overclocked i5 should be well powerful enough for what I need?

A 4770K overclocked will outperform a 4670K overclocked for multithreaded stuff. A 4670K overclocked will generally outperform a 4770 though.

If you're getting a Z87 board you should just spend the extra to leave the option open. It can make quite a big difference.

So this is my final parts list for my new build.

To recap, I want it to be as powerful and as silent as possible for around £700. It's mainly used for web development, Visual Studio or Adobe Fireworks are probably the most system intensive programs i'm using.

It comes in at £773.

Thoughts?

Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Asus GeForce GT 640 2GB Video Card
BitFenix Ghost (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Be Quiet 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Lite-On iHDS118-04

I will use the free CPU cooler that comes with the motherboard
