Alter Bridge - Fortress
Avenged Sevenfold - Hail to the King
Bastille - Bad Blood
Black Sabbath - 13
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Eminem - MMLP2

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but it's been a fairly good year.

Thoughts on the Avenged album?

I used to love the band but have been struggling to really get into anything since City of Evil. Is it a continuation of the way their sound has been going the past couple of albums or something different?

For a contribution to the thread I haven't picked up nearly enough music this year but my personal picks would be the QOTSA album and Bastille.

Queens of the Stoneage - ...Like Clockwork is by far my best album of 2013! It feels like such a step up compared to previous albums

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories is a close second

Shameless riveth-- waiiit a minute, you're getting into your prog rock a bit too, aren't you.

It has been a decent year for music, though to be honest the dark ambient side of things has been a little disappointing.

My choices, which I can't see changing much between now and the end of the year, are:

Tesseract - Altered State
Fates Warning - Darkness in a Different Light
Enforcer - Death by Fire
Shade Empire - Omega Arcane
Svarte Greiner - Black Tie
Azam Ali and Loga Ramin Torkian -Lamentation of Swans
Driss el Maloumi - Makan

I didn't like the Bastille album - Pompeii's a great song, but a lot of it just seems a bit flat to me.

The new Bloc Party album was a real surprise, thoroughly enjoyed it. Vampire Weekend and Daft Punk both released unsurprisingly good albums. The best for me is Kaleidoscopic Dream by Miguel though, not least as it's not the sort of thing that I'd usually listen to, and not only have I listened to it on repeat, but I've actually really enjoyed it. It's opened up a whole new genre of music for me.

Good shout - listened to this so much for a couple of months.

I also really enjoyed 'The National - Trouble Will Find Me' this year.
Definitely an album that evolved for me after repeated listens, plus saw them live at Ally Pally, which blew me away.

I saw that as well :) I haven't really absorbed the new album enough yet but they were flipping excellent live!

I think its a bit different to the last album but its definitely more similar to that than it is to their earlier stuff. Some of the songs have more of a 'classic' metal vibe, a bit like metallica or even iron maiden. To me that's a good thing though :)

I'd say give it a listen if you can cos there's some cracking songs on it (title track is really good).

Amazing album but 2012

Usually able to make a pretty big list but haven't been able to keep up with music much this year. Favourites have been:

Arcade Fire - Reflektor
Arctic Monkeys - AM
CHVRCHES - The Bones of What You Believe
David Bowie - The Next Day
Deafheaven - Sunbather
The Dear Hunter - Migrant
**** Buttons - Slow Focus
Gregory Porter - Liquid Spirit
James Blake - Overgrown
Kanye - Yeezus
Phosphorescent - Muchacho
Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories)
Watsky - Cardboard Castles

Got so much hip hop I need to catch up with.
