Hello there.

I will be doing a little build for a friend who is an architecture student. He uses a number of heavy apps such as the Adobe suite, 3ds Max, CAD software etc. and I trust you guys to spec me the best possible components for that price. :D

What he needs:
Motherboard
CPU
16GB RAM
SSD
Graphics card

Thank you in advance! :)

Wait until social hours hit and stulid and gang will spec something

You make us sound like a gang of pick pockets in 1920's london..

We're not that bad! :)

I agree with Hyburnate (who ironically seems to be nocturnal) an i7 would be the best way forward..

This is a bit over budget but it would be my suggestion:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4771 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £239.99
1 x GeIL Black Dragon 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD316GB1600C11DC) **OcUK Exclusive** £107.99
1 x MSI Z87-G43 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard - FREE Alpenfohn Civetta Cooler!! £86.99
1 x Toshiba SSD HDTS212EZSTA 9.5mm 128GB Solid State Hard Drive - Retail £71.99
1 x MSI Radeon R7 240 "Low Profile" 2048MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card £59.99
Total : £576.54 (includes shipping : £8.00).

You'll need an ATX case to fit this..

Can the case fit any mobo size?

And what PSU does he have?
Yes it can. As for the PSU I'll have to check.

Doomedspeed, thanks for that. What do you think of the cheaper AMDs? Is the i7 the best for his needs? And also, will that graphics card be powerful enough for his work?

The i7 will be the best for the money,

He can get a 8320 but really an i7 would be a lot more consistant for his sort of work.

The GPU is low-end but for general graphic and its processing core, it perfect.

This all ammuses he is rendering using CPU rendered, not GPU rendering, you'll need a MUCH MUCH beefier GPU to GPU render.. Some go into the thousands of £'s.
