I stayed in the Monte Carlo, which is next to New York New York. The hotel was decent enought and really cheap like around $30 a night but the location was great. Monorail links to bellagio and 5 min walk to next monorail which goes to mandalay bay.

You have to go the the grand canyon, I did a helicopter ride at dusk and flew back over the strip at night! pretty awesome. Saw Amir Khan get battered by Garcia lol and went the see circ de soulie (or how ever you spell it).

Like most people say, it's disney land for adults you can do anything you like! I would recommend a visit to palm springs hotel off the strip one bar is about 50 floors up with a glass floor and the club next door is higher where the roof opens up to see the stars! pretty epic!

Wish I was going back, been almost two years now but Thailand is the next place for me to visit!

Went there last year (November), solo as part of a 3 week hiking trip around Utah, Nevada and Arizona. Left wife, kids and dog at home...guess which one I missed most whilst hiking!!! Spent first 4 nights and last 4 nights in Vegas. Great fun...non-stop party, so much to do.

Going to be doing the same this year but taking 3 weeks in October rather than November...November was a bit too chilly tbh.

I must say that after 2-3 days full on drinking, gambling, clubbing it is good to get away from the Strip. I would recommend the following (all near by):

Valley of Fire State Park (stunning scenery, about an hours drive north of Vegas)
Mt Charleston
Red Rock Canyon
Hire a speed boat on Lake Mead

Eating and drinking can be quite expensive. Looking at $8/beer plus $1 tip at hotel bars/lounges...$12/beer plus $1 tip at clubs. Mixed drinks more. As mentioned above drinks are complimentary if you are gambling but you need to tip the waitress at least a $1 a drink.

Great dedicated forum at www.vegasmessageboard.com

I stayed at the A**a - fantastic hotel, could not fault it in any way, apart from maybe the table minimums are a bit high for a low roller like me.

Went to Vegas on honeymoon Aug 2008. Went for 10 nights and can see why people say it is too long in some respects, but in others it isn't long enough :)

August was HOT, leaving the hotel with cold A/C and walking outside almost knocked you out!

We spent so much time just looking around the other hotels as they have so much to see and do. Stayed at Bellagio and location wise was perfect, if I went back I would look at PH or Paris.

So can't wait to go back, kids have put it on hold for a few years mind!

There is plenty to do in and around Vegas for that sort of time imo - just wandering the casino resorts, shows, Freemont Street, amazing food and drink!

Outside Vegas I'd recommend Hoover Dam and if you can stretch to it time-wise, a trip up to Death Valley National Park - the single hottest place I've ever encountered on this planet!!!

Can anyone recommend a hotel on the strip which has sort of apartment/suite style rooms which can sleep 4+ people in various bedrooms?

Was thinking of going as a group next year and there's quite a few couples in the group so wondering if something like this may be more economical for couples to go in rather than paying for a double rooms. Some how get a bit of a suite which has a big lounging area then 2-4 bedrooms all breaking off from it.

Or would it be just as cost effective getting your own double rooms?

Give Westgate@PH a try. We stayed there on our last trip as we managed to get it for £500 for 10 days through a deal, was outstanding. Two bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom, one with a Jacuzzi and en-suite. Fully kitted out Kitchen for all your needs, TV, projector, decent-ish location just opposite from the Bellagio and the worlds best breakfast buffet.

Doubt you'll be able to get it as cheap now as we got it as it was just opening - however if you're splitting the bill 4 ways it probably wont hurt at all.

DON'T go and see a show by Penn and Teller the magicians, my Father went a few weeks ago, and said it was extremely boring, lazy attempt at magic, and Penn kept going on very opinionated rants about various american laws/bills etc.

Just in case you were planning to see that :p

Here's my thread on food from my trip there last year:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18530307

Vegas is probably my favourite holiday destination. I did two weeks there last summer staying in a huge terrace suite at the Cosmopolitan, few nights at the M Resort which was superb...real holiday atmosphere, then the four seasons which I wasn't too fussy on and finally in my favourite Vegas hotel, the Mandarin Oriental. It was the second year on the bounce we have done 2+ weeks in Vegas.

We have stayed at the Encore and while the Wynncore complex is easily the best on the strip in terms of restaurants, casino, clubs and bars it's just too big in terms of room numbers so you just feel like a small cog in a large machine. The level of service at the Mandarin Oriental is just incredible and you really feel like a valued guest.

There is so much to do out there too. My favourite gun range is American Shooters. Much less busy than 'the gun store' on Trop and a better choice of things to shoot. Shopping is great, trips to the canyon, helicopter down the strip at night, drive to red rock outlets. Hell, you are only 4.5 hours drive from LA if you wanted to go there.

My advice to anyone going to Vegas for the first time, pick a cheap hotel mid strip. You will not be in the room very much at all so it's fairly irrelevant as long as it is clean and safe. North end of the strip is a bit shady, South end has little going on as Rotty has already said.

I went & saw them & thought they were brilliant...Chris Angel on the other hand was a pile of buttock.

KA & Absinthe are amazing.

Maybe it just wasn't their night then, or perhaps its just recently

Don't get me wrong there are some great reviews for them online, but there's a couple of recent reviews that say very much the same thing as my Dad said... are they going off the boil a bit?!
