I absolutely cannot stand it. I feel so out of place and uncomfortable and I believe that comes across to people I interact with. I've done it but try to find any excuse possible to avoid doing it.

Probably because you aren't used to wearing formal clothing.

If you wear a tailored suit and tie everyday, you soon get used to looking smart. (and feel like pleb over the weekend walking outside in normal clothes)

So when you wear black tie, you feel like such a boss.

Don't mock too much - I went to my first black tie event in a crap suit with a black tie. Where I was mocked.

Black tie for the win in general though, complete with begging strangers to tie the damned bow.
