970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

Hardline will run the same as bf4, and even 3gb is plenty on bf4 at 1440 with all the settings maxed. Most I've seen used is about 2700mb at 2560x1600 on sli 780's.

Considering that gtx 980 was hitting 3.9 gb I reckon 8 gb 980 and 970 are in the pipeline

I think that both the 970 and 980 will have some problems with 8gb of VRAM at higher resolutions.

I hope I am wrong.

Still unsure what to do, Asus Strix for the 980 or reference surprisingly now.
Got a FT02 with the rotated mobo so airflow is a bit different to your traditional case

Unsure I can see myself getting a 2nd card instead waiting for the next gen when single cards have the grunt to power 1440P+ at highest settings. (Plus hopefully gsync/freesync would have matured up nicely by then).

Leaning towards the Strix due to the nice ability for overclock headroom.

If anyone has any thoughts it would be appreciated.

Yea i was £11 with the Royal Mail using there next day special delivery service when i sent back my faulty 290 for rma.

Agree. Looked at other couriers etc and was amazed to find RM special delivery before 1:00pm and insured up to £500 for £11....!!!

Seems cheap enough and covered insurance wise. You can print off your labels as well online.

What would I say to trading standards about the card?

That you bought it on the understanding that it had 4GB VRAM. And although it does have 4GB of VRAM, the manufacturer and retailer didn't make it fairly clear that the VRAM isn't being used in the way that everyone expected. You might want to show them some quotes from NVIDIA, and maybe tell them that OCUK are accepting returns.

But do bear in mind a single 970 really has no issue, superb card!

My 840 EVO has a sequential read speed of 540 MB/s, and my K70 RGB keys can be programmed to display 16.8 million colours.

Can they ?

With the 970's failing to even utilise 4GB properly i dont see why users are wanting one with more vram, 980 yes perhaps but not a 970

Ha, very tempting, but I still don't know what to do tbh... however, if these specs are real, it's a definite swing to the Reds... just means waiting though.

The funny thing is you can get a pair of proper 290x 8GB now at around same price as a pair of 970 3.5GB
