Hi all,

Looking for advice for a high end gaming PC which will possibly be my last build for quite a while. The PC itself will be used mostly for gaming and general streaming etc.

Few points that are important to the build :)
1) OS, keyboard and mouse not required.
2) I would be looking to run a dual monitor setup as well. If the budget doesn't stretch to 2 monitors I am happy to go for one and buy the 2nd in a few months time.
3) The case should be mid sized and ideally have good cable management and dust protection (important as house can get dusty at times)
4) Games wise it will be used for FPS (CoD/UT) MMO's and League of Legends etc.

I have generally always pre built my machine (and I know that's half the fun!!) but would also be wondering if there is any pre built options that match what I am looking for?

Always had great advice from the forums in the past so it's appreciated as always :)

Thanks!

wow thanks for this :)

I will take a look and see but all of these fit within my budget so I guess the question is what would ultimately be the best gaming setup out of them?

So I think I have decided to go with this build:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£15 Saving + Gigabyte Free Upgrade ** £397.98
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £281.99
1 x AOC G2460PQU 24" Widescreen 144Hz 1ms Gaming LED Monitor - Gunmetal £199.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Savage Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX324C11SRK2/16) £95.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H105 240mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) £94.99
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £94.99
1 x Phanteks Enthoo Pro Mid Tower Enthusiast Case with Window £79.99
1 x Crucial BX100 250GB SSD SATA 6Gbps 7mm Solid State Drive (CT250BX100SSD1) £76.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £66.98
1 x Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) £8.99
Total : £1,416.59 (includes shipping : £14.75).

Looks OK and have done a bit of reading. Anything I am missing at all?

(Gonna wait a few months for 2nd monitor, along with adding a sound card, some changes to the fans. Cant decide if I want to match all the cable colors to kinda go with the red/black theme it has)

Argh! Thats what happens when you are looking at stuff after 2am in the morning!

I suppose the option would be to either change the GFX and RAM to:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-010-GX&tool=3
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-129-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=2426

Or Change the MOBO to one like so:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-611-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2811
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-635-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2811
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-491-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2811

All three of which can be done as part of a bundle. There doesnt seem to be much between the motherboards - all of them have reviewed really well.

Decisions decisions :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x BitFenix Spectre PRO 200mm Red LED - Black £15.95
1 x Silverstone Cable Extension Value Bundle - Black & Red £13.16
1 x Silverstone PCI 8-Pin to 6 +2- pin PCIe Cable 25 cm - Black / Red £4.24
1 x Silverstone PCI 8-Pin to 6 +2- pin PCIe Cable 25 cm - Black / Red £4.24
1 x No Molex to SATA Adapter Required £0
3 x Alpenföhn 140mm Wing Boost 2 Plus PWM Fan - Red £9.95 (£29.85)
1 x Akasa FLEXA FP3S 3 Fan PWM Controller (AK-CBFA06-30) £3.98
Total : £81.01 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Or this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x BitFenix Spectre PRO 200mm Red LED - Black £15.95
3 x Aerocool DS Edition Fan - Red - 140mm £13.99 (£41.97)
1 x Silverstone Cable Extension Value Bundle - Black & Red £13.16
1 x Silverstone PCI 8-Pin to 6 +2- pin PCIe Cable 25 cm - Black / Red £4.24
1 x Silverstone PCI 8-Pin to 6 +2- pin PCIe Cable 25 cm - Black / Red £4.24
1 x No Molex to SATA Adapter Required £0
Total : £89.16 (includes shipping : £8.00).

The Spectre Pro 200mm and the Aerocools come with red leds and 7v adapters. Don't bother with the adapter in the case of the Aerocools as they are quiet on 12v (and Asus mobos can control their speed even though they aren't PWM).

Quick question to add to this :)

Got my delivery of everything and now twiddling my thumbs as I've had to send my case back to where I bought it due to damage to the top of the case (case wasn't bought from OC) - whilst I am waiting on the replacement coming I was having some thoughts on the cabling. I can see some suggestions for the red and red/black scheme....and I guess now that I am thinking about it I want to go the full way and have all cables the same :)

What would be the absoulte minimum cabling I would need to buy to power everything in this build: (only difference is mobo which is the Asus Z97 Pro Gamer)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Maximus VII Ranger - Devils Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£15 Saving** £396.94
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £299.99
1 x AOC G2460PQU 24" Widescreen 144Hz 1ms Gaming LED Monitor - Gunmetal £199.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Savage Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX324C11SRK2/16) £104.99
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £94.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060009-WW) £89.99
1 x Phanteks Enthoo Pro Mid Tower Enthusiast Case with Window £89.99
1 x Crucial BX100 250GB SSD SATA 6Gbps 7mm Solid State Drive (CT250BX100SSD1) £72.98
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £66.98
3 x Aerocool DS Edition Fan - Red - 140mm £13.99 (£41.97)
2 x Aerocool DS Edition Fan - Red - 120mm £12.49 (£24.98)
Total : £1,483.80 (includes shipping : ).

Also as a second question the fan config is going to look like 2 x 140 intake, 2 x 120 on the H100i as exhaust and and 1 x 140 exhaust on the rear of the case.

Due to my horrible case building skills I am not certain I am going to be able to keep the inside that tidy - would a fan controller help with the management side and be worth it for that number of fans or is it a tad overkill?)

Again cabling wise I wonder what cabling would be recommended to power all the fans with or without a fan controller since there wont be enough headers for them all on the board individually?

(I realise the Luxe has a fan controller included but not sure I want to use that as read a fair bit from people saying they burnout quite quickly so want to avoid it if possible)

Thanks again :)

The Pro Gamer brings five fan headers which are enough. What you do is use the included Y-splitter cable that comes with the H100i, to connect the 2x120 fans for the radiator. That takes up one header (CPU_FAN). Then connect the pump RPM cable to another header (CPU_OPT). And that leaves three SYS_FAN headers for the 3x140 case fans.

If you want to avoid a bit of clutter on the mobo, and would rather avoid getting a fan controller, then use this for the 3x140s and hide it at the back:

YOUR BASKET
1 x BitFenix Alchemy Molex to 3pin x3 Fan adaptor 12V 20cm - Black £4.99
Total : £7.27 (includes shipping : £1.90).

If by any chance they are too loud for your ears at 12v (I doubt it), you can use the 7v molex adapters that come with them (and those can go around the back out of sight).

And the 2x120 rad fans can be controlled through BIOS or Asus software (if you install the latter).

As for colour coordination - as is, all the cables will/should be black. PSU cables are black, and the Audio, USB, Sata and I/O cables should be black too. So easiest/cheapest way to coordinate is to use what you've got already.

If you want to mix it up a bit with black/red:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Silverstone Cable Extension Value Bundle - Black & Red £13.16
- 1 x No Molex to SATA Adapter Required £0.00
- 1 x Silverstone PCI 8-Pin to 6 +2- pin PCIe Cable 25 cm - Black / Red £4.24
- 1 x Silverstone PCI 8-Pin to 6 +2- pin PCIe Cable 25 cm - Black / Red £4.24
Total : £25.55 (includes shipping : £3.26).

Those are the main/chunkiest cables that'll be in view. The others, being black (hopefully) and thinner, won't really harm the look.

There are also CableMod PSU full-kit cables, but you'll only end up seeing the four cables included in the Silverstone extension kit, if you keep the PSU shroud the case comes with. So I personally wouldn't bother.

YOUR BASKET
1 x CableMod E-Series G2 & P2 Cable Kit - Red £69.95
1 x CableMod E-Series G2 & P2 Cable Kit - Black / Red £69.95
Total : £149.50 (includes shipping : £8.00).

It's very difficult to get absolutely all cables to match because there are no USB 3.0 extension cables on the website. And you can get red Sata data cables but they won't match the colour exactly, etc. So I'd keep those in black and add the black/red Silverstone extensions that look very nice.

mdjQQAd.jpg

Silverstone black/red extensions and Aerocool DS black/red fans on Maximus VII Ranger mobo, in Carbide 540 Air case.

As you can see in the pic, it's all very red with the lighting (NZXT Hue) turned off. Maybe you could do with some white lighting.

Great advice thanks :)

Got the fans/cables ordered so just need to decide to buy that Bitfenix Molex adapter or actually go all out and get a fan controller.

But worried that the fan controller wont help hide clutter due to the temp wires that would need to be placed around the case.

Great advice though, thanks:)
