Is this cpu any good for gaming? I'm looking to build second gaming pc for myself for lan parties. Around 250 for pc without windows and gpu as already have HD7970 second hand real cheap

I'm using a g3258 OC'd @ 4.2 with a 280x (re-labelled 7970) in my second pc. It handles most older games absolutely fine but remember that it's only a dual core.

It's great value for the money but it does benefit from OCing. I managed to get 4.2 on just over stock voltage and it runs at about 55-60C under full load.

It is for older games when OC'ed but will struggle with newer multithreaded games.

It's a great chip...but ideally for gaming a quad core will give you a smoother experience.
