Win 10 install freezes on SSD but not on HDD...

Hi all,

I went out and bought a Samsung 850 evo SSD to install a fresh copy of windows 10 on. I created the USB media, booted from it, installed and can get to the point at which the first stage of the installation is complete and it restarts to boot from the SSD. It does this, but then crashes pretty quickly around the 'preparing devices' screen.

The other drives on my machine are 2 x 500 GB old fashioned HDD set to RAID 1. It's a freshly formatted partition, and out of interest I tried installing win 10 onto them, rather than the SSD, and it has worked

The motherboard is a fairly old but trusty Asus P6T SE

If the SSD were itself faulty then I don't think the installation would get anywhere on it. Therefore, I'm wondering if I require any pre-install drivers for it? Intel AHCI or something like that? Or am I missing something more obvious here?

Thanks for any assistance!

Have you a dvd rom drive attached as well, on one of my boxes, doing the same thing, i had to disconnect the dvd rom for reasons i do not quite understand in order to get it to behave.
