On plusnet 80/20 here, speed a stability is great but I can see the cabinet from my window. Only had to phone then once which was painful to get through but fine once you talk to someone, however if that gets any worse I'll probably look elsewhere when the contract is up.

Also to echo Scuzi, the router was the worst I've ever received from an ISP, even the talktalk adsl one was orders of magnitude better. Got a TP-W9980 now which replaces the modem and router.

Little bit of a downer, given a date to transfer from BT fibre to Plusnet of 12th, my BT services cut and still waiting for Plusnet to activate.

Being lazy on my part though, on their forum guys have had the same issue with the same date, and got it activated straight away after phoning... so on hold right now to see what happens

EDIT: Sorted within 20 mins on online chat, activated manually :)

I am currently with BT and ordered my switch to PlusNet at the beginning of the month. My switching date is the 17th for phone and 18th for fibre.

I've received my router, but the paperwork refers to a BT Modem, which I don't have, and an engineer visit, which hasn't been scheduled - so I'm somewhat confused.

Is their router actually a modem/router, like the BT HH5 I'm currently using?

Does anyone happen to know if BT will ask for their HH5 back?

Edit: I've spoken with them and they're sending me a modem foc. I'll then decide whether to use the combo, my HH5, or buy a new router.

This is the kind of problem most people get when they move fibre from one provider that supplied an all in one device to another who doesn't provide an all in one device, and the system assumes (in an under siege 2 kind of way) that you already have a modem along with the appropriate faceplate and doesn't request a BTOR engineer be sent to do the work.

You should be able to use the HH5 (which if you're already out of contract they can't request it to be sent back) when the connection is switched over by changing the username and password in the hub settings, but if you want to (and don't want to waste another plug socket on a modem) you can get another dedicated router that has a VDSL modem included if you don't want to use the HH5.

I've never particularly liked the HH5 configuration options, but then also don't like the price of decent router/modems either. :D

I have a few options and will try them out before deciding. I probably won't get the modem in time for my switching date of the 18th though. :(

I would just go back to the HH4 then, Plusnet allow you to use any router.

I have a Netgear R7000 on the way. The HH4 was okay but it's time for an upgrade.

On the topic of Plusnet service, I'm on day 5 of service and speed tests are showing 29mbps down and 8-9 up. On the day of installation it was more like 58/20. It has gradually become slower and slower each day. Wondering if it warrants a call to plusnet or is this just part of the normal 10 day testing process they talk about?

There is no 10 day training period on fibre, despite what they say. You should get the correct speed after 2/3 days.

I'm assuming 58/20 was your initial estimate, and your speed tests are done over a wired connection?

If so and the speeds are dropping that fast then you have a problem somewhere, so I would get in touch with them via web chat or on the forums.

It can be really eye-opening to monitor your line stats. Find a VDSL modem/router that is compatible with DSLStats and sign up for an account at MyDSLWebStats - you'll then be able to see detailed changes on your connection over various periods.

Im in a similar boat to yourself now on day 8 but my speeds dropped on day 4 from 60Mb down and 15Mb up to 21Mb daon and average of 12Mb up.
I have put in a fault to them and still awaiting it being resolved.

note on this is my Ip config for the line has dropped 10Mb since the fault began, im just hoping they can have the SNR values reset once the fault has been resolved so the line can re-establish its own stable data rate.

So far id have to say my customer experince with Plusnet SUCKS.
since upgrading to Fibre BB my speeds have been slashed from 60Mb Down to 20Mb Down
due to a fault on thier system which they still have not resolved, as a result my sync rate/ip config has dropped down to 44Mb
Almost wishing i had went with Bt and paid the extra money mabie i would have gotten a better experence.

Our experience with plus net hasn't been the best. When we first moved in, we was on ADSL and the speeds were really slow, so we upgraded to the fiber optic were the speeds are a lot better. However, on 2 occasions that we have had problems with the phone line/broadband.

First time we didn't have any internet for 3 days as BT did something wrong at the exchange or something similar.

ATM, we aint had internet for over a week. There is something wrong with the phone line at its a dead phone line. We rang plus net up and basically said if its your phone line then you might have to pay £50 fee if its your home. We found this to be shocking as we ain't hacked through any walls, or anything like that as we live in a new build of apartments.

The splitter is in the utility cupboard which is open to anyone in the building, so we can get electric reading etc. Our maintenance company said if its after the splitter, I would have to pay, but if its before they will.

So at the moment, not happy with the service and when we finally move house early next year, I shall be going to a different company.

Why are you not happy with that? Thats the standard response you'll get from all ISPs ... if they find a fault within your property after the master socket, then you'll be charged for it, if its before then you wont. That a BTOR charge, not an ISP charge.

But why should we be charged for it if we don't actually have access to it? Nor have we hacked walls to find cables, blown the house up? Its only been in a year. If there is an actual problem, I think it will be at the splitter where it goes to all the other people in the block.

Ive been with PlusNet for years and I've had fibre for probably half a year now. Initially I was getting 55mbps down and 15mbps which was excellent. A few months ago though I noticed that I could no longer get above 40mbps, spoke to PlusNet and they said I've never been able to get it despite showing them a speed graph showing I could. Apparently I've always been on the 40/10 package but I have no written proof to say otherwise (girlfriend ordered it and then deleted all the order emails!). I think what happened was that the packages changed and a new unlimited extra package was released.

The Technicolor router is poor and needed constant reboots, but everything else has been great.

I had some issues with them once or twice but the support is decent. They capped my BB because apparently we had been losing connection frequently, not sure if true or they were just trying to save bandwidth but after an e-mail they sorted it. I liked the fact they have a no contract option if you buy their router or use your own, I brought one of their routers but now keep it as a spare after upgrading (something sky doesn't like you doing).

They have to do this, All ISPs are currently having to block Porn sites by default to protect children. You can get them unblocked but you have to request it usually by phone but in the customer/members portal of your accounts which you can access online with your ISP you can do it there too.

Also by law certain sites have to be blocked too such as copyright infringed sites which is why TPB gets blocked by most ISPs along with a lot of other similar sites. This isn't just plusnet its how all UK ISPs are going which is out of their hands.

Also @ the guy who's not happy about the possible £50 charge. That is not plusnet charging you that is Openreach engineers. If they find a fault within your house they will try to fix it and will charge you £50 and possible other charges if they have to replace anything.
If it's outside your house then you don't get charged anything as you pay line rental and this covers maintaining your line! It's a common mistake to blame the ISP for this charge, perhaps it wasn't explained properly by the person on the phone!
