Could I get away with using a table top style tripod in those two locations?
Or is it best to place you camera on your bag, trigger it remotely and hope for the best?

In the SG, in seems like you only have one hour. Can stay longer (if you're not eating) or do you have to be precise with your booking times if you want to be there for sunset and beyond?
(I know you can just walk in, if places are available).

Generally, is it worth getting a table top tripod for London Village? I'll be taking a proper, as I use it all the time.

Thankings :)

Try writing to the management company stating your credentials and purpose and see if you can get a pass/licence. I did that to shoot in the British museum where tripods are forbidden.

Thank you Sir.
I've just sent an email to the Shard's big boys.
Emailing the Shard directly was a waste ink.

My next question to you is, where do I get some "credentials" from? :D

Credentials - I am a freelance photographer who has published in X & Y publication (attach screen shot of article) and currently doing a project on Z (London Sky Scrapers?/Views?/Shard?) and would love your permission to allow me a 60minutes pass to photograph on your observation deck.

Something like that.
