Assuming the folk paying £40 ish for water aren't on a meter and the people paying £20 ish are? Interesting read as once my house is finished I'll be in this boat!
I'm not on a meter and I only pay £20/month. Looking at estimated usage and pricing I think I'd actually be paying more if I got a meter installed... The way I understand it if you're not on a meter then your water bill is a function of the value of the house you live in in 1990 or something stupid like that.

My monthly expenditure looks something like this:

Rent: £650 (I rent a terraced house on my own)
Gas & Electricity: ~ £50
Water: £20
Internet: £28.50
Council Tax: £71
Household Insurance: £10.50
Food & toiletries etc: £195
Phone contract (sim only): £10
Car Tax: £11.70
Car Insurance: £50
(plus I budget around £35 for petrol (I don't drive very much), and £15 for MOT, service, etc, but not sure what I actually spend)

That puts my basic monthly expenses at around £1150. This doesn't include stuff like new furniture or clothes or car or rental deposit, but I see them as more one-off 'capital' expenses so don't include them with my basic 'monthly' expenses.

Then the rest of my salary goes on fun stuff/savings/pension etc.

Basically a working life 5 days a week, cost's about £100 a day-ish no matter what way you look at it.

If you under £100 a day you in trouble. :(

TL;Dr £2k+ a month wins anything less you struggling.

Rent - $475 (share a three bedroom house with two others)
Bills - $44
Food - maybe $300

I hadn't realized that so many people on this forum still live with their parents.

It entirely depends on age. People in their late teens or early to mid 20s are more likely to be living with their parents based on the difficult in being able to afford to move out.

Looking at the rest of this thread makes it look easily within my income tbh

Live up north near Sheffield so prices aren't too bad just as well as my salary is poor. Earn 22k a year. Rent 1 bed tiny flat 300 a month, good price there's nothing cheaper it's in a nice quiet apartment complex up a long private driveway and surrounded by woodland. Has a groundsman no extra cost. Water 20, contents insurance 5. Child maintenance 150. Car loan 95. Virgin media 65. Car insurance 50. Electric 50 no gas. Council tax 65. 2 credit cards minimum payments 100. Vaping supplies 40. Food 200. I'm skint and close to going into debt management it's impossible to have any quality of life single and on a very basic salary. Often have to borrow money and the 2 credit cards are maxed coming to 5k.

About 15-20% of my salary, literally dependent on my electrical bill (astronomical at times :( ). I live in my own place with only a small mortgage. Food is really cheap. Though I'm not sure how much I spent a week. Maybe 150is? Which is NZD so around £80. But not every week.

All and all, I got it pretty good.
