I was 23 back in 2009. Still have the Phenom II X3 720 and Gigabyte motherboard from it, the latter of which was in use until just a few days ago, albeit housing a 1090T instead. The 4870 from it died in 2013 and the OCZ PSU went a year later, which prompted a full system upgrade.

I was 15 I think. Before that I'd completely dismantled a few HP laptops that had been overheating, just so I could get at the heatsinks to clean out the dust. One of them died in the process. Don't know what happened. Had also opened some towers previously but didn't do anything more than swap out wifi cards.

Around 16, my Dad bought me some parts and the rest I bought or salvaged from what I could find. Something like a Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM. I used to spend hours tinkering with it, overclocking the CPU and GFX card, making mods to the case, moving hard drives around, trying to tidy the cables in a better way etc.

Nowadays I just use a Macbook :p
