but you did read that keeping gulen in the USA is a hostile act against the republic of Turkey. In diplomatic terms thats very harsh language

Turkey can afford to use a bit of harsh language because she knows the USA regards her as as a strategic ally.

The USA can afford to put up with a bit of sabre rattling from Turkey, because she knows a lion fears no threat from a mouse.

"The US and Turkey have had to co-operate closely over the past two years as the US uses the Incirlik air base in southern Turkey to launch its raids on the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.

But Turkey's ties with the US are more fraught now than 24 hours ago.

Fetullah Gulen, who Turkey blames for the failed coup, lives in the US. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said any country that will "stand by" Mr Gulen "won't be a friend of Turkey and will be considered at war with Turkey".

What's now being reported is that Turkey is shutting off access to Incirlik - and so stopping the US jets conducting sorties against IS."

"won't be a friend of Turkey and will be considered at war with Turkey".

That is not what most news sources are accepting as the translation.

sure, but they way things are going the last years in Turkey i dont see turkey being a strategic ally for the US for much longer. Thats because Turkeys leadership is acting like a lunatic. 2 weeks ago they have offered Russian jets to use the incirlik base and NATO went like, wtf? Turkey is really worried with the kurdish problem and has had enough with the US support towards them. They are also a nuisance with almost every neighboring country, heck they even **** the saudis with the military base in Qatar.
Watch how their relationship with Russia will improve after last nights events.

The mayor of Ankara has already stated that the pilot who shot down the SU24 back in november has been arrested, he also stated that the pilot acted alone along with other coup members back then...

Or are they merely using the failed coup as an excuse to go after him?

I think that's very likely.

Seems very unlikely, do you seriously think that the leaders are ao devoted to him they'd kill thier fellow loyalists then happily rot in a prison cell forever/be executed for him?

That assumes it was a ground up plan by the Presidency - in the realm of conspiracies it could be that they encouraged and helped along plotters already existing while having a plan in place to retake control once it kicked off.

Interesting that the power supply to an American base in Turkey has been cut and know one can enter or leave it. Its the same base Turkey offered Russia to base its su-24 since they kissed and made up. Oh the pilot that shot down the Russian plane in Syria has been allegedly arrested as part of the coup instigators.

Suspect the power supply being cut is coincidental as I'd imagine they have fully self contained backup power generation onsite.

Very much, I suspect even a normal aiport would have emergency generators for critical systems, military facilities tend to be built so they can operate even when the local power stations and infrastructure have been destroyed.

Feel free not to derail a thread on Turkey by making cheap shots at people who didn't vote the way you wanted in the EU referendum.

You've made four posts in this thread, none of which have been to do with the coup attempt, all of which have been to do with the EU. All everyone else has done is point out Turkey were decades away from joining and your first post in this topic was bull.

You're the one who is derailing the thread.

The door is that way <<<

Anyway, on topic, what evidence does he have to go after the judiciary, or is this just an opportunist land grab while he has the chance?
