Hi all I've just sold my R9 390 and I'm looking at a Nvidia card for the 1st time.
I mostly game (Witcher 3, Gta v) etc ..on a 1440p Dell ultrasharp U2715H.
I have a I5 4670k,8gb of ram.
My question guys is..I'm looking for a card that will give me 60fps on above titles at 1440p with top settings. I have the funds available now for a 1070 I'd have to wait maybe a extra month or 2 for the 1080. I'm looking at a card that'll hopefully give me 3-4 yrs of gaming. Also would an extra 8gb of DDR3 ram be worth it? Thank you for any feedback ,much appreciated

A benchmark for GTA V shows:

Test bench 6700k @4Ghz and 16gb DDR4-3000

2560x1440, Preset: Very High, 4x MSAA

GTX 1080 gives an average of 82.1 and minimum of 55.
GTX 1070 68.6 and 47 respectively.

I'd wait for the 1080 and save the extra cash if you can. There should be better choices of 1080 cards available in a couple of months too when they actually get their AIB buts in gear and send out non ref cards in sufficient numbers to retailers.

Go for a 980Ti (non reference). Put the money you save towards the Gsync tax. I use a Gigabyte 980Ti G1 myself @1440p. Alternately if you are planning on VR soon then spend more and grab a 1070 / 1080.

Upgraded from a 980Ti and still couldn't justify more than a 1070 for the same resolution.

You'll cap 95% of games at 60 Fps as it is, I don't want to have spare power because in reality is just wasted :)

Would save the 200£ for something else, you're still within 15% performance anyway.

I've purchased a 1070 for 1440p gaming and have no regrets about my decision. It represents a huge upgrade from my old card (the 770) and I feel that the £409 I paid for the Palit Gamerock Premier edition is quite a reasonable price given its performance. I would highly recommend going for it.

1070 is plenty for 1440p60. 1080 will give you more headroom for the future but IMO is not worth the extra unless you really want the highest frame rates.

1080 i think. Just bought a 1070 and I was about to pull the trigger on a 1440p monitor but got cold feet as quite a few benches of some of the latest games show even a 1070 not being able to maintain 60fps+ and i am not one to turn down settings :p.

I mean it will be absolutely fine, but i wouldn't expect silky smooth 60fps+ in everything when maxed out and especially not on games coming out in the near future.

I guess it depends just how smooth you want it and how susceptible you are to framerate drops.

I'd say 1080, but not at current prices.

Not a bad idea considering how well it does in Vulkan/DX12, depends on the types of games OP plays.

I'm also waiting to upgrade to 1440p, but I'll wait for a card that can do 4k60 with no compromises before that, should make for a good high framerate 1440p experience. But if OP wants solid 1440p60, the 1080 is good enough, the 1070 might require a few settings reduced to do the same. But so would a 980ti... which IMO is a much better buy than a 1070.

Just save up and get whichever of the options float your fancy.
