I don't know really. I just tested this. Fired up heaven looping and my amp extreme goes to 2037mhz straight away then to 2025, then settles down to 2012mhz. It will probably go to 2000mhz eventually.

Max reading for TDP and voltage in gpuz however is only 68.1% with 1.0620v on the volts.TDP mostly around the 60-65% mark. Temps settle to ~60 degrees whilst looping.

I think it just how they work ( this is all at stock/out of the box by the way)

The boost is very variable on what is going on. For example playing Arkham Knight with vsync on at 60fps it never boosts. Just stays at the base clock of 1632 MHz because gpu usage is only around 50% most of the time.

yeah as I concluded earlier in the thread, the zotac amp extreme's have a much higher TDP limit, but most 1070s have a much lower TDP limit than the zotac's.

Sadly my comments on this seem to have got very little attention (both on here and other sites), but the few people who I have discussed with have also discovered different cards even from the same vendor have different TDP limits, e.g. a palit jetstream has a lower TDP limit in the bios than the gamerock premium. Also that the zotac (non extreme model) has a lower TDP limit than the extreme but still higher than palit.

I did play with the curve in msi afterburner on my card and surprisingly it is stable at 1.06v at 2140 clock speed but I wont run it like that for gaming, just did it for a test. The card cannot sustain higher than 1.06v at high load due to the TDP limit, it is what it is. These cards are sold as power efficient cards hence the aggressive TDP limits.

I'm curious how well the cards can hold upto higher current levels - haven't really had a chance to look into it.

I think this will be the card I'll go for. I'm 98% sure it'll fit in my Lian-Li mid tower but I'll have to double check the depth. So glad the power connectors are on the side. Hated AMD put them on the front side facing the front of the case on the 5870's. They say it is the fastest of the 1070's. I've been going through so many reviews checking everything out.

This'll be my first NVIDIA since 2006, 7800GS+.

It looks beetchin!

I .... almost .... caved in this evening after waiting for a 1060 or 480 I actually liked to come into stock. Saw a 1070 for $392 (dollars) and was closed close to pressing 'pay' after putting my details in lol. It was only an Asus 'DUAL' model, so no back plate, but had a reasonable simple white shroud that would go nice with my case, but too be honest I wouldn't see that with it facing bottom lol.

Well I hope I just became an owner.... I caved when I saw an ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Gaming Card for $383 (dollars). Fairly decent card for what is at present a good price.

This is the fastest and most expensive card I have ever bought. Should hopefully do me for quite a few years.

Reality is, I just got fed up of waiting for a custom 480 or custom 1060 I wanted.

Will I be disappointed with a 1070 for maxing out games at a res of 3440x1440? I was thinking of getting the zotac amp and maybe a second one shortly after.

Quick question....

Running a Palit GTX Dual 1070 here. Should the fans drop to zero ?

The min speed they ever get to is 1000rpm.

Do I need to use the thundermaster utility to manually override the fan settings, or should it do it out of the box ?

*EDIT* Just installed the thundermaster utility - the minimum fan setting appears to be 32% which is about 1000 rpm - hmmm ?

Ok narrowed down my search ... looking at the asus strix oc or the msi gaming x. Both have silent play and cool really good. And dont spin up loud.

Seems most go with the msi but I have a strix 970 here and I really like it; pretty much silent.

I had a Strix 970 and my MSI 1070 is significantly quieter. I could hear the Asus at load, whereas this is virtually inaudible.

Don't know about the 1070 Strix though but I went with MSI anyways because I hate triple fan designs. Pointlessly big and completely unnecessary in terms of cooling performance. Also, didn't want to pay the Asus tax.
