Finding this thread unfortunately confirms what I'd started to suspect: there are now some monitors with (more or less) my ideal specs, but a lot of the panels have glow/bleed.
I'd like to go from a 24" 1080p TN direct to something that will last me for the next 10 years, but the 27" IPS 1440p Freesync monitors all have the blight, according to Amazon reviews. Some guys had a photos of 3 or 4 monitors with awful bleed.
The Acer XF270HU and Asus MG279Q both fit the bill, but QC seems to be poor. I'm currently doing a test run on an LG 29UM68 21:9 IPS, but that has glow on the LHS too.
Is it just all big IPS panels or do 1440 panels have some particular issue? Different process or manufacturer or something?
Do any brands have a better hit rate (particularly ASUS v Acer) or is there some manufacturing or technology step upcoming that could make it worth waiting vs. entering the lottery?
