^^ You still have the same heat to deal with no matter how good the heatsink is - if its efficient just means it can move it from the core to the case (or out the back) faster and if your case cooling and/or ambient temps aren't great won't help much.

Could be true, but eg the MSI Armor heatsink is absolutely superb on the overclocked 1080. Decided to play Crysis 3 the last hour, and while was working at 99% (2150 clock), with fan speed at 92% at 65C, the card was silent. I could year the Predator 360 @ 70% fan speed, but not the 2 fans on the Armor which were doing great job.

And I will agree with Aretak, Sapphire Fury Nitro is dead silent card considering the amount of energy it converts to heat....

Silent at 92% fan? hm What RPM is the fan at 92%?

indeed, silent at 92% fan lol. Someone is deaf.

Just irritates me when people use the wrong words about fan noise, some of the review sites say this about cards as well "silent level" or "this is silent", but no. Silent means no noise, it is not the right word

It's a replacement for the 980, which it is a good deal faster than.

There is no replacement for the 980ti as of yet.

I'm not sure why you'd buy a 1080 to replace a 980ti and expect a huge jump in performance.

+1

Though the 1080 is a much cooler (and thus quieter) running compared to the 980ti, that alone is enough of a selling point for many.

IMO for those on 980ti's, the only upgrade option is a TitanXP. We need Vega to release and for a miracle to happen to make it compete with the 1080, for NVIDIA to release a 1080ti that's reasonably priced.

Yup - having reasonably quiet 600rpm case fans I've encountered a few "silent" products that are quite plainly audible over the other case noise.

Just pulled out the Sound Meter, lowered the Predator 360 to 30% so I can hear that the card cooler, not the Predator fans.
I sit ~40cm away from the case (to it's right) which is open to the side and on my shoulder level.
(With Predator 360 @70% max 21db, avg 18db)

MSI Armor @ 100% fan speed speed, 2300 RPM - 19db max, 15db avg

92% fan speed, ~2112 RMP (around there it fluctuates) - 15db max, 10db avg

Either your sound meter is duff or I have bat hearing.

Well from those RPM numbers I agree it would be quiet, but not silent, my FTW I have at about 2400rpm, which is not very noticeable, but definitely not silent.

I am surpsied that MSI armour keeps the card cool considering the heatsink looks small compared to the MSI X and also the fans are quite slow at 100% speed.

So what you are saying is that your MSI armor, runs at 65c max temp, 2150mhz and is silent? hmmmm

People freaking out about artificial benchmark scores. lol

If someone says 24% is not fast enough to justify the £600 of the GTX1080 over the 980Ti, should go and delete all his posts in this forum arguing that the GTX980Ti is faster than the FuryX justifying the price of the 980Ti, because hypocrisy is not a good trait...

Because the difference between those cards was a meagre 10% on DX11, when the price difference was significant greater (+20%, +40% on the similar AIO watercooled models).
980Ti and Fury X were the exact same price when they debuted. :/
