I want a new GPU for my system as my 260x was only ever supposed to be a stop gap which turned into years. I've got a £200 budget. I was thinking about a second hand 970, but what's your opinions? I've got a 650w PSU.

at £200 you're looking at a radeon RX 470 brand new, if you're willing to go second hand, then I'd grab a radeon r9 390 for less than £200 or try and grab a 390x for £200 that'll offer much more oomph

After watching some videos on YouTube, I didn't realise how well the RX 470 performs overall.

I've got the chance to get a Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970 for £180. The three fan version. So I wasn't sure if I'd be better off with that or the 470. For the small price increase, how much better is the 480 compared to the 470? I've seen various benchmarks and it doesn't look to be that much more powerful.

If you have the Money for the the 480 you should go for that, its about 15% faster than the 470.

At this point i wouldn't go for the 970, its old tech and will start to fall by the wayside in the coming months, i'm looking to replace mine in the next 6 months.

I'm not in any real rush. I've had the 260x for a few years now, I'm sure I can wait until the end of the month for the 480. That's if anywhere actually gets stock in.

They're (rx 480) in stock right now at OCuk

I would try and stretch for that 4GB 480, £10 above your budget but still great. There really isn't much difference in performance in game between the 4 & 8GB 480's.

Or you could get an rx 470, which is still only a few frames worse than the 4GB 480, but within budget of course.

That 4gb may be able to unlock to an 8gb too.

I'll say this much for the 470, though. If you increase the power limit, it performs much better than out the box. It's capable of a fairly big overclock too. 1320mhz I got easily from mine and I haven't touched the voltage yet. I'm quite pleased with the card tbh. £170 is a reasonable price for what you can get from it.

No. Not in my (granted, limited) experience. I have a nice little overclock on it and it sits at 80c quite happily. With the overclock off it sits about 75c and quiet as a mouse (maybe a little exaggerated).

80c is pretty normal for an AMD card to be honest.
