Cheapest 480 in stock is £225 which is out of my budget, and would most likely bottleneck my cpu (amd a10 7850K oc to 4.2) which both of these cards prolly will. But for future upgrades sake im looking to get the best bang for my buck. I only play Guild wars 2 atm and would like it to look pretty, should I stay with the 470 as previously advised and keep out of the big boys games :)
ps: budget is £190 which brings the 1060s into play

I would avoid the 3GB 1060 for your budget. GW2 (like most mmos) are cpu reliant, so a CPU upgrade could probably benefit a lot.

But, If £190 is your absolute end of budget then I would recommend these 3:

Sapphire and XFX are often seen as the better AMD board partners, for customer support & RMA.

The card linked below has a better cooling solution than the 3 linked above (lower noise and reduced temperatures) but it costs a bit more. MSI is a very well respected company for customer service and RMA. It's £5 over your budget though.

Again slightly over budget, but the card below would be a decent improvement over any of the 470's I linked but for only £10 more. This is probably the best bang for buck card that overclockers sell (but it isn't in stock atm).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVM0Nb5crMM - This video is a good set of benchmarks for the cards in your budget (just ignore 1060 6GB).

I'd probably drop OCuk a webnote tomorrow asking when they think that 480 will be in stock, and if they intend to keep the price the same. You never know, it might be in stock next week. I have also recommended you avoid the 3GB 1060 based on future-proofing. As seen from the video it is faster, in most cases, at present. But, this will probably change over time as games begin to use up more VRAM and suddenly 3GB doesn't cut it. Also, many future games will be using DX12/Vulcan more readily which at the moment favors AMD cards slightly.

Kinda feels like a big assumption that the 480 will catch up. I assume however that you veterens here have seen this exact same thing before with the last gen and AMD did catch up, even overtake. How many years did that take?

I'm not sure if the predictions will work this time tbh, the 1060 is like 80℅ faster than 960 and has way more vram. It is the biggest performance leap ever for a xx60 card. I don't think it will fade anything like previous xx60 cards.

I find it really strange why people go out there way to benchmarks a beta or alpha etc surely it's best to test once amd/nvidia have there working drivers on a full release title?

What's to say tonight AMD release a driver that gives the 480 a performance boost in dx12 now that link above would be out of date and miss leading.

Edit
Right on que, amd just released drivers, now that benchmarks ate completely pointless.

BF1 beta benchmarks of RX 480 and GTX 1060. GTX 1060 is beating RX 480 on both DX11 and DX12.

I don't understand Swedish (and I hate reading computer-translations) but from the tables I saw it seems like BF1 is a DX11 title with DX12 as an afterthought?

I say this because both cards lose a lot of performance in DX12 compared to DX11 (which should not be happening in either of them).

Unless there is a 'proper DX12' patch coming...

I wouldn't read too much into it, the priority from the devs is on stability rather than performance. Lots of performance optimisations to be added, which you'll see in time. :)
