Nope, OCUK had 1080's from £525 on release. One place had a gigabyte G1 for not too much more as well.

So the strengthening of the £ is causing the current price drops. A lack of high end gfx card competition from AMD means Nvidia dont have to worry about pricing too much. Guess the only way cards to get cheaper cards is with £ value increasing.

GPU prices have actually stayed pretty similar for like a decade (silly titan cards excluded)
Unfortunately the pound has gone from being worth 2x 1 dollar, then ~1.6x for a while, and now 1.3x in that time.

Is the reference cards that need to be shifted from the shelves. The ones with AIB coolers are going to stay at around £600 mark. Why not, since they sell?
I remember well Gibbo saying that they buy currency in advance for future orders, so any currency fluctuation has nothing to do with yesterday's price drop on 2 reference cards.
Which possibly ordered and paid when the currency was much higher......

If a currency becomes worth less then you get less of other currencies in exchange for it. That's what worth less means. So if a good is priced in a foreign currency (e.g. because Nvidia is an American company), then it costs more pounds to buy. So of course exchange rates have something to do with it.
The idiocy of some people not understanding / believing this defies belief.

I was referring to the current thread Gibbo created advertising reference Gtx 1080 cheaper than before due to the pound going up.
Not how exchange rates and pricing are working. And finding your post insulting at least.

If the pound has strengthened does that mean all the 1080s are coming down by the same amount?
Majority of them have come down, some of course are holding price still due to shortages.
Gigabyte 1080 Extreme is only £659.99 at OcUK, thats down from near £700.
price or worth is in the person whos buying it.each opinion is different for each person.
if we realistic the card should start at £400.release they started at £520 for a ugly card.
we wont get that price of £400 until the 1080ti comes out.now.nvidia have the market sown up.
they selling so why do they need to drop at the moment.
real funny thing is no real power hungry games have come out or will before christmas so 99 percent of us on here could play anything just as good for probably the next year on what we have.
bf1 is the only real sort of game that pushes anything and at 1080 max a 970gtx runs it flawless.1440 a 980 gtx can run it.

If you need to ask when the 1080 will make it's way into your financial budget zone, then you should realise that the 1080 is not marketed at you. The 1080 exists in order that it can be compared to the 1070 and therefore drive the sales of the 1070. Anyone buying or having bought the 1080 doesn't really have a budget governed by price/performance ratio.
By the time the 1080 is at an acceptable price/performance ratio, we'll all be buying 1080ti's.

No,he has said the opposite. They buy on account and have to pay the bill at whatever the exchange rate is at a later date - hence why he says they have to gamble on what the rate is going to be/stay at.

i think the difference is and this doesnt need to be mixed up is financial budget zone and acceptable price.
i could buy 10000 i wouldnt buy one on the simple fact that they have been overpriced since launch gauged and basically took the **** in every way.
many feel that way and have held off buying them.
so its not about being in the financial budget.its about taking the **** with the pricing.
