Looking for some advice on companies that allow one-way car hire across Europe.

We're looking to fly to a friends wedding in Megeve next June and were going to fly to Lyon, pick up a car then drive across Northern Italy to Slovenia where another friend is having a wedding 2 weeks later. The trouble I'm having is finding a car rental place that allows this. A lot of the places that advertise one way hire simply show they are sold out, but have lots of availability if you want to hire a car and return it to a different location in the same country.

Any advice? Would it be easier to rent a car for France, change it in Italy, then change again near Slovenia?

Nobody is going to allow this - many of the rental firms are franchised and even the corporate ones will not want the enormous amount of hassle and expense involved in returning a French registered car from Slovenia. It can't be re-rented in Slovenia, it must go back to France. Slovenia is a particular issue as many firms won't even let some of their vehicles enter it let alone be dropped off there.

Try and make it a single rental. Fly to Geneva, rent the car there, Lyon is a short drive. Then do the trip to Slovenia.

Then take the car back to Geneva. Just make sure you can take it into Slovenia as it can be an issue.

If you do want to try a one-way, what about Italy? Fly into Milan or Turin (3.5 hour drive to Lyon) and 'one way' the car to Trieste or Venice, both of which are very close to Slovenia.

Unless your in Scotland why not just drive the whole hog in your own car? - if in Copenhagen it Almaty be just as easy :)

No weight limits or flights to worry about and the ability to go wherever you like (or rent one in the U.K.?) we drive around Europe fairly regularly (last trip to the Croatian islands near Split, back via Vienna and next trip to the amalfi coastbia the alps) - Slovenia is a harsh-ish one day drive or easily done in 2 :)

Looks like Turin - Trieste could be the best option, the cheapest option is about £370 for 17 days, unlimited mileage and AC, renting with Alamo (searched via https://www.carhirelabs.com).

Car hire prices in Copenhagen are eye watering (unless you can prove you don't reside here), they can easily be 2-3x the price of the UK.

Have you tried calling a rental company direct. I went on hertz to book from Glasgow to Slovenia (an aiport) and says to call to book, rather than just flat out refuse.
