cat6 or cat5e for cabling up house?

Before the new carpets go down, I want to run some cable around the house. None of it will be massive distance, is it worth using shielded cat6 over cat5e, or am I just making it harder for me to run cables without any real gain?

Personally i would get high grade Cat 5e.

If it's only under the carpets then Cat5e plus it will save your pocket aswell.

Cat5e will be fine. It can do gigabit speeds and is easier to work with.

I'd go with cat5e, it's fine for 10GBe under around 60M.

30-40M IIRC

(Still far enough for most domestic runs)

Anyway CAT6 is not much better, it's CAT 6a which you need for 100M 10GBE

Cat5. I regret using Cat6.

It was a pain to run, and in some rooms I only ran one line because I gave up. Regretting it more now that I actually need a 2nd run to one of those rooms.

As it's carpet and easily accessible might as well use cat5e.

Inside excavate or burring within a wall, cat6a.

Decent brand like Excel.

I'd vote 5e too, 6 is not worth the extra wonga in your scenario.
