Anyone using Oculus with a Alienware or similar laptop?

I got a demo at the shop and fell in love with oculus.

I am considering an option of buying a powerful enough laptop and the alienware 13" with 1050/1060 GPU comes to mind.

I am aware that a desktop pc will be cheaper, and more future proof but portability factor of the laptop is very important to me.

So was wondering if others on here with similar spec'ed laptops can give me insights how well they will perform with oculus rift or Hive

thanks

Vargas The 17" is like small suitcase!. I cant even think of where it would sit comfortably in the house. The 13" would have been perfect as Flashheart say's best stump up to a 1070

So is there a decent 14" laptop with 1070 in it

Have a 17" R4 with a 1080. Smooth as silk. Perhaps a 1070 would be a good choice over the 1060, it's much faster.

I've recently got the 17 r4 with the 1080 but not yet had the chance to try it on the vive. glad to hear it should run it well :D

definitely recommend 1070 as a minimum. the golden rule with gaming laptops is to always buy one with the absolute best graphics card you can stretch to. compromise on anything else.

Great machine and the resell value on the MM will be good when I sell it in two years lol

Indeed, I can see the 4k screens on ebay for the 15", but they only appear to be of the 6th gen intel cpu's

It's strange that Dell UK & US show the 4k screen as features yet it is not possible to configure a 15" machine with one.

Since only gaming use is going to be Oculus / Hive, how important will be the following:-
1) Ram 8GB Vs 16Gb
2) Screen 1080p Vs 4k
3) CPU i7-7700HQ VS (i7-6700HQ / i7-6820)

Thanks

the 6820hk is superior to the 7700 as it can be overclocked.
if you're only using it for VR then screen doesn't matter, 1080p is fine.
16gb ideally with ram.

is this with the 1070 card?

I have an MSI GS63 VR and it's fine with my Vive. It's sporting a 1060 and I've not really noticed any performance issues other than once or twice (had to check frame rates to confirm as it wasn't too bad).

I have narrowed down to a Alienware 13 R3 GTX 1060 VS 15 R3 GTX 1070.
The consideration for 13" was purely of portability (even though not so light) ....

I will keep an eye out on the outlet for good deals on the 15" 1070

A shame there is no news of a 13" or 14" Laptop with GTX 1070
