So long ago - I might have a few details wrong but something like:

Pentium 4 3GHz w/ HT - Akasa Dark Knight cooler (I think that was the name - it was a solid lump of copper)
DFI 865PE Infinity
OCZ Gold XTC 1GB w/ voltage booster
Gainward 6800 - special edition card with a slightly downclocked ultra extreme core on AGP with 512MB VRAM
Creative Sound Blaster Live! (image is the 5.1 digital but IIRC at the time I joined here I had the flagship "gold" edition in there)
OCZ GameXStream 700W (might be wrong on the wattage)
Various Seagate 7200.9 drives totalling around 300GB of storage or so.

Believe I was still using a CRT monitor for gaming reasons at the time.

Don't have any images to hand of it setup at the time but still got these bits.

At the time that was quite a machine hah.

I'm afraid my PC has not changed due to not having the money to upgrade (kids come first lol)

I did go from this PC

AMD Athlon x 2 6000+, 4GB of ram and a Radeon HD 5830 1GB

to this

Intel I7 950 @ 3ghz, 6GB of ram and a Nitro 390.

I did this before I joined the OCUK forums, I only joined to get the free postage and I am for some reason still on here most of the day at work and for a bit when I get home lol

It hasn't really.
still rocking an I5 2500K
I think I've increased form 8GB to 16GB RAM in that time

I have a GTX 680 waiting to go in to upgrade my GTX 580, that was donated to be by a friend, but as I don't game so much it hasn't been a priority for me.

I was rocking an ancient PC when I joined. It had been bought originally in about 2002, used quite a lot for about 5 years, then put away when I bought a house and switched to laptop for 3/4 years. I then started using it again, but it was slow as ****, struggled even with youtube, and I wanted to get back to PC gaming (from a sojourn to X360) so started researching a new, cheap build (as I was selling the first house to move somewhere bigger, along with having kids), which brought me to OCUK.

Joined:
Athlon XP 1700+
ECS K7s5A
80Gb + 40GB HDD
1GB ram (DDR)
Geforce 3 Titanium 200 (at some point around joining OCUK swapped for a TI 500, then a 7600GT AGP)

Now:
Athlon x2 270
Gigabyte 970 UD3P
1 GB HDD
4GB DDR3 Ram (1600)
GTX 560Ti (Briefly, when bought, a GTX260)

The current one was built very cheaply, with the intention of upgrading the CPU, GPU, memory and HDD (to SSD) as needed. I still haven't really felt the need for a whole lot of upgrading.

My first purchase from OCUK if I remember rightly was a slot A Athlon 550MHz, Abit KA7 motherboard and some RAM. That would've been back in 1999 I believe and would've replaced my Pentium 2 450MHz setup.

I then remember actually visiting the OCUK store in 2001 and picking up an Athlon Thunderbird 850 guaranteed to 1GHz along with an Abit KT7A-RAID and some more RAM. I also had grabbed a GlobalWin FOP38 cooler - anyone remember those? I have no idea how I managed to put up with the noise of that Delta fan for as long as I did.

However it seems I only joined in 2004...at which point I would almost certainly have had a Pentium 4 2.6C at 3.2GHz and an Abit IC7-G. Graphics card I suspect either a GeForce 6800 GT or Radeon X800 Pro.

When I joined I'd just built my first PC, with...
  • Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 3.3ghz (faster than the Extreme Edition of the time - those were the days when you could overclock an Intel CPU whichever version you bought )
  • Asus P5N-E SLi motherboard (overheated easily but was great for overclocking)
  • 1GB Crucial 10th Anniversary RAM (overclocked easily, also overheated easily but solved that with putting a fan above)
  • Asus Radeon X1950 Pro graphics card (rubbish, crashed lots, got replaced with an 8800GTS 320mb which was much better)
Now I've been and done most of the PC thang over the last ten years. Had custom watercooling, SLi, CrossFire and ran a seperate graphics card for PhysX. These days my rig is a bit more modest - i7 2600k @ 4.5ghz, 16GB RAM, 512GB Samsung 850, XFX 480. Looking to upgrade to Ryzen in the next few months for new features, warranty etc.

My usage has changed. I did have an AMD x2 thingy, then an 8200 running in an HTPC. Now I use a Roku instead of an HTPC. I have also added a server using an i3-3150 and a HP N54L as an XPenology machine to my loft to serve the house.

The main thing that has changed since I joined is the day to day machine I use. It used to be an old dual core 15" laptop, now I have a nice i7 XPS 13.

Joined 2009, bought a i7 920 at that time..and still use it to this day. The whole PC has undergone some changes though such as two new graphics cards, a PSU change or two, some different RAM and some hard drives additions/changes, case etc but the core CPU and motherboard are the same. It's amazing really that a near 8 year old core system can still do everything I ask of it.

I did however buy the components for an Athlon 64 3000+ based system off OCUK several years previously (maybe 2003/4), I may or may not have joined the forum at that time. If I did the account is long since dead.

I think I had a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ when I joined and then upgraded most years after that, sometimes changing cpu's once or twice per year. Things have slowed down in the past few years though as we just haven't had any worthwhile platform upgrades.

Yeah upgraded to a nice E6600 based system soon after joining here. Sadly I'm just not as excited about hardware as I was in those days and much more sensible purchasing - splashed on a 7950GX2 and some insanely expensive RAM which fortunately didn't work as it was like £600 for 4GB and replaced it with G.Skills 6400 stuff that was like £130 or something.

EDIT: £606.28 for 2 sets of OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8000 Dual Channel Titanium Alpha XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2TA1000VX2GK) - I feel kind of silly now looking at that - fortunately it went back and got this instead: G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) for £220 instead (still a bit more than the £130 I thought it was).

Been using OCUK since early 2000's and has always helped with decision making so I thank it for that. Just wished over the years their prices were more competitive with many things purchased (not all) have been from competitors..
