Microserver gen 8 SAS?

So the backplane is driven from a mini sas connector but attaching a sas drive the system appears to not recognize the drive.

does the gen 8 support the use of sas drives?

You would need a SAS controller. The controller on the motherboard is a SATA controller that just happens to use the SAS connector for convenience. You could put in a P410 or P222, and replace the cable, but you would also need to find the correct SAS mounts at the rear of the cage. I.e. a lot of palaver.
