Hi,

I am getting ready to upgrade /re do my system. Since July 2011 my system runs via a 850W Corsair HX Series (80 Plus Silver).

Will i see any benefits to switching to a modern PSU? Not just performance, but more efficiency and less electricity use?

I've had zero issue with the PSU and definitely got my money worth, but I might GPU more frequently, but the rest of the system does not get touch for a 5 years+

Will be switching to a Ryzen built with single GPU

Feedback is appreciated.

Thx

You would just be wasting money. Prices have gone up so you would be paying a lot more for a replacement psu than you could sell your current one for plus tha electricity savings would be so small that you would never get your money back through savings. Stick with what you have.

Unless there's been some super special crappy edition that's 80+ Gold PSU...

Reliability wise don't see yet reason to hurry PSU change.
My Seasonic X-650 is year and half older and previous Seasonic M12 is in neighbour's PC and having 11th birthday.
(maybe could get him interested on X-650...)

Overal performance wise there haven't been that much changes in high end.
Though in highest end PSUs voltage regulation is starting to be at ludicrous level.

Neither is general efficiency really much better from 80+ Gold, except in expensive Titanium PSUs.
Though at low loads (idle/desktop) PSUs waste heat is nearly halved by best Titanium PSUs to handfull of watts.
For numbers HX should be roughly comparable to RM.
