I'm looking to buy a new mobile phone but I don't know much about them so could someone give me some advice before I waste my money. I only need a basic phone where I can browse the internet and watch the odd youtube video so I thought about buying a sim free Samsung galaxy j3 2016 for £130 but does it matter that it doesn't have the latest android. If I was to spend a bit more money what brands should I be looking for as I see a lot of people use Samsung or apple phones but they maybe just snobs.

Have you got a link to the phone as I'm not sure I'm looking at the right phone. The reviews for the wileyfox have put me off due to poor battery and poor camera.

If you can stretch your budget you could get the huawei p8 lite (2017) link. It's currently £150 + £10 topup (link) + you probably have to get it unlocked via buying an unlock code on ebay.

Samsung galaxy j3 2016 vs huawei p8 lite 2017: (specs wars)

CPU (max) 1.5 GHz vs 2.1 GHz
Display resolution 1280*720 vs 1920*1080
Display size 5.0 inches vs 5.2 inches
1.5GB ram vs 3GB ram
8MP (rear), 5MP (front) vs 12MP (rear), 8MP (front)
Battery size 2600mAh vs 3000mAh (the battery is bigger on the huawei but so is the screen and resolution and so it needs a bigger battery)
Sensors: Proximity, ambient light and accelerometer vs Fingerprint, ambient light, accelerometer, proximity, compass
Storage 8GB vs 16GB

Both phones have micro SD. The huawei is also on android Nougat.

I don't know if the significantly better specs are worth it to you but imho the p8 lite 2017 is the best value smartphone right now in terms of where price meets performance. Any cheaper and the spec's get a lot worse and if you want significantly better specs it's going to cost quite a bit more (since the lenovo p2 on 3 network is sold out AFAIK). Having said that you could get a better spec'd phone if you are willing to buy it from china (link for info). Pro's: 3GB, SD625 CPU (it's about the same performance as the one in the p8 lite 2017), 32GB storage, huge 4100mAh battery. Cons: you have to select slow delivery to avoid uk customs (but still no guarantees) and it might take up to 20 days to arrive, warranty would require sending it back to china and hoping nothing goes wrong. It also has a 5.5" screen size, is that too big?

I've had a look at the Huawei p8 lite 2017 but can you tell me what's the difference between the two models apart from the price. http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7390809

There is no difference, the one that is 199.95 you can see used to be 209.95 (the price of the other) it looks like they have reduced the price but kept both on their website for some reason.

Just get the one for 199.95.
I contacted argos and they said item number 739/0809 has Video capture in standard definition quality along with a battery life of 1260 minutes of talk time, whereas product 686/8174 only has 21 minutes. someone have asked about the 21 minute talk time and argos said The Huawei P8 Lite Mobile Phone has Up to 11 hours Talk Time (3G). I've now seen a Samsung galaxy J5 2017 which I thought had an amazing video quality.

The first link for £199.95 would be the one I would get out of the two. It says it's the "2017" model, which is important because the older huawei p8 lite had terrible battery life and isn't nearly as good. But it's confusing because BOTH say: "The P8 Lite features a stunning 5 inch HD display" but this is wrong and sounds like they are talking about the old model.

You can get it from curry's for £179.99 link (unlocked) or giffgaff for £179 + £10 topup link (giffgaff says all it's phones are unlocked)

**** dude. I just saw this review. So maybe the p8 lite 2017 isn't such a good deal. I thought it would be like the p9 lite which was a great phone, it was also £150 + £10 from vodafone. That reviewer loved the p9 lite (review). So I assumed the p8 lite 2017, that has the same spec's as the p9 lite, was also good :/

I've ordered the phone now so I hope I haven't made a mistake. Argos have now removed the £209.95 Huawei p8 lite 2017 after I contacted them so maybe they noticed that all the spec's was for the Huawei p8 lite. They still have the £199.95 Huawei p8 lite 2017 But it's showing both the spec's for the old Huawei p8 lite and the new Huawei p8 lite 2017.
