Install and use 32bit app on Win10 64?

Hi,

I cannot install a Legacy app to Win10 64, I know it installs and works fine on Win10 32.

The problem is I need to run this app on a tablet with a SIM slot and Win10 32bit Tablets with SIM Slots simply don't exist.

I have all the usual stuff to get it to install, compatibility mode, developer (Side loading) but no joy

Anyone know of any software or anything that gets around this issue? Or better still where I can find a Win10 32BIT Tablet with SIM Slots!

Is it actually 32bit or is it 16bit?

32bit should work, 16bit won't at all iirc.

It might just be a 16-bit installer too, which doesn't help.

Hmmm, I'll have to check, maybe its 16BIT. It definitely installs and works on WIN10 32BIT but not 64.

Yea 32bit windows includes NTVDM which I believe is what is required to run 16bit apps, 64bit doesn't have that so will just flat out fail.

Sounds like whats happening. Looks like I need to buy a 64 bit Windows Home tablet, an additional license for Windows Pro 64 just so I can legally install a 32BIT version of Windows and that's if the device even lets me install it!

You can get a 90 day trial of Windows 10 enterprise which has a 32 bit version. And I am fairly sure that a license for windows 10 home or pro covers both the 32 and 64 bit versions.

I've been told I cant install Enterprise 32BIT from Home, thats why I need Pro for the up/downgrade path

As @Disco_P mentioned the tablet's home licence will cover both 32-bit and 64-bit, is there any reason why you need pro over home?

That enterprise trial will work regardless of the original OS or license.

Because you cant install Windows 10 Enterprise directly from Home.

Home > Pro > Enterprise

Bit of a faff but how about installing Windows 10 32bit trial in HyperV and seeing if it works?

No, you preferably want an OS that didn't have activation like Win 95, 98, NT or 2000. Plus those early ones are less resource intensive.

But you also want to secure it from network access, as ancient operating systems installed from CD/dodgy iso are likely to be holed by some nasty or another in minutes online

Home > Pro > Enterprise

You can install it directly from the iso. However 32 bit home windows should work on the oem license. If it doesn't, unlicensed windows still works quite well.

You might be able to use WINE on Linux if you want a secure OS that is free and can run some Windows software. Not sure if it works with 16 bit apps or not though.

Edit: Hyper-V runs Linux just fine.
