So going by the 56/64, would Vega 11 likely compete with a 1060, but consume more power? Or is the plan to somehow strike a middle ground between 1060 and 1070 performance?

@Gibbo any chance to put on the shop the Gigabyte Vega 64 with the Gigabyte X370 and 1800X bundle?
Sapphire voids warranty on custom watercooling.

You sure Gigabyte doesn't void the warranty with a custom block? All Vega's have the same "void warranty if removed" sticker on a screw of the reference cooler.

Under the hot sun.

Gigabyte doesn't void the warranty of their GPUs as long as you haven't damaged the card by watercooling it, and you provide them with the original cooler for RMA purposes.

Alongside EVGA are the two companies who are pretty clear on that aspect.

Curious to your source/experience then. Was searching for an answer to this specific question as I just bought a Gigabyte Vega 64 myself and curious about replacing the thermal paste. However, what I found:

2016 https://www.gigabyte.com/Press/News/1476

Specifically the last one is an up-to-date reply by Gigabyte stating it voids the warranty if a cooler is removed.

The 580 already competes with the 1060, so not sure.

That's what I thought, hence why it would make sense at least for it to be closer to a 1070 then now. Hope so at least, as a 580 seeems decent power consumption wise, and would there be a market for a card that performs similarly to a 580 but is better for compute tasks (or whatever Vega is better for vs the Nvidia cards)?

You'll see 1070 performance for the price of a 1060 or RX580. Won't use much more power than similarly clocked rival cards at the more conservative specs.

RX 580 already competes with 1060. There is a large gap between RX 580 and Vega 56, so expect Vega 11 to be slightly slower than GTX 1070 but priced lower.

Will be interesting to see if they take a different approach with Vega 11, and try to keep closer to the frequency/power sweet-spot. Hopefully it's not simply a smaller, less capable chip, but again clocked as high as it'll go - power be damned :p

For the mid-range hopefully they'll have more regard for keeping power budgets low. Otherwise, what's the point. A slightly faster 580 with similar power consumption would be another fail.
