The thing is, Face ID has already been done by Microsoft in the form of Windows Hello. So it's not exactly new.

And other companies done it years before them, one being HP back in the mid 2000's.

Well I'm waiting for the Pixel 2 keynote on the 5th October now.

I honestly can't see that offering much more than the current Pixel and the price will be close to the X.

If FaceID is good then it's not really that much more than an 8 Plus, and it's always fun to have the latest and greatest stuff.

Hopefully they will have touch ID on the flagship model by then.

Normal 8 for me. I am switching for the first time ever from Android to ios. having second thoughts tbh.

So let me get this straight they have gotten rid off Touch ID and added crappy facial recognition?

It maps your face in 3D via 30,000 data points using infra-red and another camera - it's even more secure than your fingerprint, supposedly.
