I have around £500 to spend on a new gfx car to replace my rx480 any advice welcome

specs:
cpu : ryzen 1600 @3.9
asus prime b350 +
16gb adata 3000mhz @2933mhz
Kingston savage 250 gb ssd + 1gb 7200 Toshiba sata3
ocz psu 850w gold rated
windows 10 x64

at the moment I have a 1080p monitor which I will upgrade at a later date , I would prefer to stay with amd radeon based cards but I am temped to get a gtx1080 (is this a good idea ? )

^^ agreed - no need for GPU upgrade on a 1080p/60hz monitor ?

I wouldn't recommend anyone buy a 1080 now - it's been out ages i'd keep the money buy a really nice 144hz 1440p monitor then buy a used 1080 or whatever nvidias next equivalent is for £500

getting dips to below 30 fps in nearly all games , atm I play games like 7 days to die and startrek online and the framerate is horrid even with the rx480 overclocked to 1320mhz . I am aiming for 3x 27" 1080p or 1440p monitors after xmas , also playing rage and the new doom and few others which also get stutter/frame rate drops to around 20 fps for some reason and my rx480 sounds like a jet engine at times (cleaned the dust out already)

I scan for those every other day

Have you tried Malwarebytes,etc?

You should not be getting those dips in all games. I had an RX470 for a brief period and I have a Xeon E3 1230 V2/Core i7 3770 and I didn't see those kind of dips in most games.

For example in Doom at 1080p I didn't get those kind of sub 30FPS dips with a GTX960 4GB. Star Trek Online in theory should be more CPU bound being an online game too.

A mate had an RX480 and a Core i7 6700 and he didn't mentioned getting any dips either.

I would probably check your CPU cooler is making decent contact, and reset any overclock you have on the GPU and CPU to stock clockspeeds too.

Something isnt right.

Doom you should get over 100fps on ultra @ 1080p with an rx 480 on vulkan/opengl . The good news (double edge sword here) is it's happening in all games so it's not the games fault. Have you oc'd your ram i.e. instability ? is your bios up to date ? (i'm not familiar with ryzen oc's)

Could the card be faulty? have you tried it in a friends system ?

I have stress tested the ram and cpu for 7 hours and both passed , the ram is at rated speed and the cpu was @55c while I stress tested it and it passed fine .
I have tried everything I can think of and it still happens lol . the store where where I purchased the rx480 says the warrenty has run out

which PCIE slot have you used ? (i assume you have used the correct one @ 16x)

i'd be tempted to wipe my ssd and install windows fresh, amd drivers then steam and see what happens before splashing out £500 on a new GPU.

Two ideas:

1: Is DSR (or whatever the AMD equivalent is) on in the drivers? as that will basically run everything at 1440p/4K and downscale it to 1080p.

2: If you were able to stress the CPU/RAM for 7 hours try downloading a GPU miner and running it for a few hours, if it doesn't have issues then you can just sell the card to a miner and add another £200 to your new card budget.

ssd was wiped 2 weeks ago in the hope of a fresh install of windows would fix it , it has got a little better but it still happens which is odd and I am thinking the card is faulty but it runs timespy fine lol
