My Dad has the same condition that he had - it's a real bugger, particularly near the end so I'm told.

Unfortunately few treatment options and no real understanding of why it happens :(
No idea about your dad, but Cheggers apparently being a chainsmoker probably didn't help his lung condition.
RIP Cheggers, another part of my childhood gone.

My Dad had the same condition and the final 6 months were really hard, Dad was only 62 and fighting fit. My Dad kept the diagnosis to himself and we were not aware of the true diagnosis until he was prescribed oxygen and referred to the Royal Brompton in preparation to go on the lung transplant list....

I don't want to sound morbid but spend all the time you have now with your Dad and cherish the memories. I was dumbfounded that there was no cure, just managing it and a maximum 5 year life expectancy....
