Don't know what to go for

Hi all,
I have just about completed by build sheet for my new pc and know most of the parts I am going with. So far I am going for a Ryzen 1600x, 16gb 3200 Ram and I think a b350 mobo (might be tempted by low end 379 board but doubt it). What I don't know if which gfx to go for.
I am thinking either 1060 6gb or 580 8GB. I have considered a 1070 but it's an extra £100, is that worth it?

Any help much appreciated

Before I start a flame war buy recommending the red team or the green team you find yourself in a situation where buying a graphics card at this moment in time is a very expensive thing to do. The miners have come and prices have gone through the roof. Memory prices are really not helping either. Both cards are good buying either will get you good performance. What resolution do you game at. ?

I honestly think the best thing to do is to grab a second hand GTX 9XX or second hand 1060 or similar, and try to make do until prices come back to a reasonable level (perhaps when new cards are released?). I've seen 6gb 1060s go for about £200 2nd hand recently, and 980's seem to go for £150 - £180.

Not ideal though!

I game at 1920x1200 (thats my monitor max res)
Dont really want to buy second hand - partly due to not knowing the history of the card and how abused its been and secondly because now that I finally have the cash for a new PC I want the joy of opening up all my nice new things, perhaps snobby but hope you know what I mean.

Yes, the 1070 is worth it, if you have the cash.

i have an absolute top budget of £1000, ideally I want to come in at 800-900 so that I have a bit left to treat the wife ( I know, I'm too nice!). Going from 1060/580 up to 1070 might well max the whole £1000, certainly push over the £900.

Also, If I go B350 then I am more tempted to go AMD to get Xfire later down the line. If i go 370 then obviously I can get the same upgrade path with Nvidia too but having spent the extra on the MoBo may push me into the 1060.

The 1060/1070 prices are a bit inflated due to being popular with miners. But they are also ideal cards. Either find an offer, (aim for £210-220 for 1060 6gb, and £330-350 for 1070) or perhaps go for a step down with the 3gb 1060 at £170-£185, and then sell this + upgrade later.

Loving the clear, concise message here :) All killer no filler!
:)

It's a move I did myself recently, looked at 1060 first. I prefer to upgrade every 3 or 4 years if I can. The 1070 seems like it will have more life in it in terms of games. The 1060 is just able to handle games now at the higher settings, the 1070 does it with ease. This is what cemented my decision.

Up to you mate. OCUK want you to spend money. Your money

I have no affiliation with OcUK, makes no difference to me how much money you spend :)

I would forget about crossfire or SLI. Get the best card you can afford now.
