Is the UE40MU6120 also ok to use as a monitor? Basically does it have the 4:4:4 chroma subsampling? I can't really tell what the difference between 6120 and 6400 is, besides the price.

Im interested in this also. Plus does anyone have experience of how 1440 looks on the 6400? 4k would be sweet but i doubt my 1070 would drive that with all eye candy on at 60fps+. I like 1440 in that regard as i can whack settings to full and mostly get 60fps.

Yes it does 4:4:4. Very similar panels. The 6400 has slightly better contrast and grey uniformity.

TVs usually do a great job displaying non-native resolutions.

I've been using MU6400 40" for a week on PC setup with 1080ti for a week and and I'm very pleased so far.
I bet that 1070 would handle 4k gaming on this thing as well(not on full ultra settings but playable). So far I have tried PUBG, Killing Floor 2, MechWarrior Online and few others. Even my friends liked this setup. As a monitor its really acceptable with this size and dot pitch.

I've just ordered a 40MU6400 + Club3d mini displayport 1.2 to hdmi 2.0 adaptor. I've only got an AMD 7970 but I'll run custom resolutions for the time being and the odd old game may work at 4k - It should be good to use with my high res photography.
It'll replace my 2012 27" Catleap 1440p monitor and my 23" dell 1080p monitor with connected standalone satellite tuner.

I bought one based on this thread but ended up returning it. If you looked at it on it;s own it looked sharp but compared my U3415W and S2417DG Monitors it looked slightly "off". I found it giving me a headache even after short periods of web browsing. Otherwise a nice TV. I definitely had it setup correctly with 4:4:4 etc

That'll be the PWM causing headaches.

The built-in image processing seems to soften images resulting in lost detail. On the few TVs I've tried recently 1080p bluray content looks almost like SD content when compared to a PC monitor side by side.

1440p looks fine to me.
A bit 'soft' sure but it's worth it to keep the fps up.

A lot of games run fine in 4k though with some tweaks.

I can confirm that. Tried Killing Floor 2(Unreal 3 Engine) in 1440p and scaling works really well. Still helluva playable.

Thanks for that I think you were right. I picked up a Sony KD43XE7073, as according to rtings it has similar input lag as the Samsung and no PWM/Flicker, so far no eyestrain/headaches :)

Out of interest which setting do people tend to use with their UE40MU6400 444 442 RGB etc? I see 442 allows upto to 12bit (I know the panel is only 8+frc) or rgb with full range or 444 with limited running at 8bit?

Which is best and most importantly why?

Is anyone managing to run custom resolutions with this tv at 60fps?

Anytime I set one up it runs at 30fps.

Would like to run lower resolutions sometimes with 1:1 pixel mapping and black borders.

So I just got this TV today and think I've set it up correctly.

I'm running with a GTX970 and a HDMI 2.0 cable however how do I get it to stop cutting out?
This happens in games, standard browsing and films. The TV will go black / flicker from a heartbeat to a couple of seconds and can do it quite often or last a few minutes.

I'm assuming it's something to do with the lag?
