Cant get new sofas through living room door

If the worst comes to the worst, I'm sure DFS will take your money to take it apart and reassemble

I bet they get this happening all the time, even from people who didn't measure/think correctly about the dimensions and should have informed them in advance.

couldnt get the sofa through.
rang a local furniture repair store who will dismantle and reassemble the sofa but he is charging £450-£600. that sounds like a total rip off to me.??

Call SCS... that does sound like a big rip-off... surely wouldn't take more than 1-2 hours?

That does sound a bit steep. I'd consider trying it myself at that price. Its the window frame too small to try? It'd be cheaper to get a brand new window and take it in that way.

Yep, that's mad expensive for what will probably be a few hours work at most.

the local company i rang is known to be expensive.
i went through my scs paperwork and there is mention there of a company called https://gshupholstery.co.uk/index.php/en/
also quoted on there is a £198 quid charge to disassemble and reassemble if needed. so will call the company recommended by SCS on monday.

tried that but its too sharp an angle to get in. contemplated cutting the bannister but then found out its gonna be more costly that way. will go the sofa dismantling route.

Easier said than done. Those end posts are usually set into the ground. If you cut it, it'll be wobbly forever

Are you sure you can't take the window out? Modern PVC double glazing with sealed units is really easy to get out. You'd better measure the window first to see if it's big enough.

If you removed the cloth covering underneath the sofa you will find each side of the sofa is bolted on. Undo the bolts and the ends come off.

All you need to do then after its in the room and ends bolted back on is to staple a new cloth covering on the bottom.

sounds drastic but take the architrave off and remove the door frame that would give a few inches of extra clearance, not a big job for a joiner.

All the furniture repair store will do is remove the bottom covering which is most likely stapled on then unbolt the arms. They will then reassemble and use a staple gun to reattach the underside cover.

They are unlikely to use any specialist tools, where being an SCS/DFS quality of furniture, it is highly unlikely to be a fixed and bonded one piece frame.

You can easily remove the undercover yourself with a decent flathead screwdriver and pliers. If it's pins holding it in they maybe reusable but if stapled, a £20 staple gun from Screwfix is all that's needed for refit.

For the sake of 10 mins of your time to look you could save yourself £200.

I bet if you took the sofa out of the packaging and removed the feet and cushions, that would go through that gap easily. You might have to remove the door, but it looks doable if the bottom side is angled to go through first.

Had to remove the armrests from my sofa to slide it under the doorframe vertically. Only took the guys who delivered it 5 minutes to unbolt them.

but if you see the pic of my sofa the arms and arent separate attached parts:

cant risk it, and scs says if i go with their company for the disassembly it doesnt affect the 20 year frame warranty i get.
