6TB WD Green purchased Dec 2014, HDTune test when new and now:

Going to replace it anyway but I'd like to know the reason for the dips, nothing to worry about or impending catastrophic failure. Would like to stick some data on it for long term offline storage but hard to judge if it's worth it without knowing the cause and consequences.

Not sure anyone will be able to give me any answers but worth a try. Moral of the story, benchmark your drives just before the waranty is up, could have returned this a few months ago if I'd noticed.

Thought HDTune tested the disc rather than individual files but look at that, fragmentation at the end of the disc exactly where the read speed drops.

I try to leave at least 20% if possible,it's a pain when you pay for a drive to have to lose such a large chunk but if it keeps them going...
