I currently have a single 2TB disk inside a synology ds214se (2 Bay). I'm looking to buy 2x6tb to go in here instead. How would I go about getting everything off the 2tb drive (filled to capacity) and onto the 6tb drives?

I've only got a 1tb external USB hard drive spare, and I don't have a desktop pc or any kind of internal hard drive caddy.

Add one of the 6tb drives.

SHR will replicate the data.

After that is done, power down, remove 2tb disk, add second 6tb. SHR will replicate again.

Then extend the volume to 6tb.

In general Bledd, would you go SHR or RAID5?

Anything business, RAID10.

My home Synology, SHR (with 4 disks, so it's essentially RAID5). With backups of this data.

SHR is great for home use, because you can start with 1 disk and scale up. (and hold your breath during the migration process :D ) I daisy chained some UPS units for doing mine, just in case!
