Hi guys,
While my current build from 2014 has served me well (and proved to be great value), it's now really starting to show its age and I think it's about time for an upgrade.
While I don't really have a fixed budget, I certainly don't want to overspend on things that aren't necessary for me and would hope for my new build to last at least another 3/4 years.
While I currently play games like Civ 6, Total War, Sniper Elite 4, Witcher 3, Skyrim, fine (albeit with various degrees of tinkering) I'm sure my GPU is being held back, and would at least, be adequate for a little while longer if it got some help (especially considering my monitor)!?
I'm really not fussed about gaming at more than 1080p for the foreseeable future, but I don't want to get left behind at this resolution and I feel like it's starting to happen.
So it's about time I updated my 2014 build...
FX-6300 OC'd @ 4.3GHz
Hyper 212 EVO
Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0
Patriot Viper 3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Seagate 1TB Hybrid Drive
XFX R9 280X 3GB DD
Corsair 200R
XFX TS 550W 80+ Gold
Asus VE247H 23.6" 1920x1080 60Hz Monitor
My new build will be only be used for everyday/general tasks & gaming on high/ultra @ 1080p (no streaming/content creation etc).
I'm pretty much decided on the following;
With respect to the rest, I am having trouble deciding between the following....
Options 1 & 2: I keep my current GPU & wait to see what the new gtx 11 series offers/does to the market and go from there? (Maybe even look to get a new monitor if the GPU dictates/prices allow)?
Option 3: Intel/AMD as below but with a new GPU now
Option 1 ~ £700
i5 8400
Cryorig M9i
Gig B360 Aorus Gaming 3 (wifi)
Team T-Force Vulcan 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200mhz DDR4
500GB SSD
2TB HD
Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 550w
Fractal Design Define C
Option 2 ~ £800
Ryzen 5 2600
Cryorig H7
Gig x470 Aorus Gaming 5 (wifi)
Team T-Force Vulcan 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200mhz DDR4
500GB SSD
2TB HD
Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 550w
Fractal Design Define C
Option 3 ~ £1000 - £1200
Either Intel/AMD but with a new GPU - but which one?
Any thoughts/input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Roberto

I'm pretty much decided on the following;
- Keeping my monitor (I think it's sufficient for the time being)
- Fractal Design Define C (want something quiet & understated)
- Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 550w PSU (open to suggestions but not prepared to cheap out on this)
- RAM - cheapest 16GB available (whilst complimenting Ryzen)
- A reasonably priced 500GB SSD (eg. Crucial MX500) & a 2TB HD
- I also need wifi (no option for wired connection currently, hence the mobo choices)

Either Intel/AMD but with a new GPU - but which one?
- 1060/RX580 - perfect for now but what about in 2/3/4 years time?
- 1070 - more than enough for 1080p for a while?
- 1070ti - overkill but almost the same price as 1070 so what the heck?
Any thoughts/input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Roberto
