Ok this is simple, i use a Noctua D14 on my system currently and im building a new 2700x system, i want to resuse the cooler since its a beast but i dont want to put a dusty cooler in my system, i was thinking i could just pop it in the shower and make sure its perfectly clean of dust and let it dry out (obviously). Would that work? Or should i just stick with compressed air and deal with the fact there might be some small patches of dust left?

Shower is fine. I have used a hosepipe before. Wouldnt use a pressure washer.

Give it a good shake, blast with air and then allow to air dry (orientated to allow drips to run out) on a tower for a few days/till you are 1000% sure its dry

Compressed air is a much better bet. Safer to begin with; start with the compressed air and if you're unhappy with the results then you could consider using water; although do bear in mind the warnings about it potentially corroding the heatsink.
