Hey guys,

recently bought a CCTV setup which consists of a NVR and cameras obviously,Now upon opening it up to look inside (4 screws) they're just using a standard 5400rpm 1tb hard drive.

Would be be a better idea to buy a "surveillance" drive for it? or do they not make much of a difference compared to a standard drive?

Are they tuned differently by firmware surveillance drives?

I wondered because the playback isn't that smooth using the existing drive and was wondering if its just because that sort of drive is not really well suited for NVR duties or that its just slow (5400rpm)

cheers.

How many cameras are there and what resolution /fps are they set to in the software?

It might help to know what cctv package you bought.. Lowering the resolution or fps may help.

It depends how good and how many cameras there are, it could be the drive bottle necking but it could maybe more likely be a configuration issue or the cameras are not very good
