I want to get into cooking more and get away from the takeaways. What equipment is essential?

I've got:

Mixing bowls
Decent chef knife
Tefal frying pan
Circulon small, medium, large pot
Casserole pot thing
Rice/slow cooker
Majimix food processor
Juicer

I know I need scales, peeler, salt and pepper mill.

What else do I need to cover the basics?

My oven trays and oven pot things are awful. What brand do people recommend?

Microplane, Japanese mandoline, tuppaware/Chinese takeaway tubs to portion stuff you prep, stick blender, whisk if you'll use it, instant read temperature probe (Thermapen or a cheap alternative depending on budget), silicon spatulas, tongs, offset spatula, food rings, timer(s), oven thermometer or leave in probe, silpat(s), errr... probably a load of obvious stuff I've forgotten, it's late!

Pretty sure he said basics. Loads on that list i have never needed or used.
Microplane = Grater
Mandoline = Knife
Timer = Phone
Tongs = Forks or spoons

Nice to have sure, not required though.

Just get stuck in, forget all the fancy equipment, you dont need a kitchen full of stuff to make nice food.

I’d take a microplane over a normal box grater.
never sure whether folks exclusively mean microplane brand ~£20=$$$ No,?
whilst I virtually never use a box grater (just for rosti type potatoes) have a mid size 3"x5" grater with holes small enough for zesting, grating gralic, sharp enough for parmesan, and fine for general grated cheese. ... the word microplane has become a license to print money.
